We are looking for:

Surgery Veterinary Assistant / Doctor Coordinator

Our Surgery team is a fast-paced environment, perfect for technicians that are looking for training in multiple facets of the department and interaction with the other teams in the hospital. This team requires strong communication skills to liaison between surgeons and clients and deliver post-operative care instructions. Overall, the objective of this position is to be the main point of contact with a client, other than clinician, while on shift.

What you’ll do:

  • Directly supports specific doctor(s)for a given shift; may support different doctors within a department at different times
  • Assist clinician and IM inpatient technician with morning exams: take notes, update medical records as requested
  • Client call-backs for tech update and suggesting a time when clinician will call with an additional update
  • Answering calls from clients inquiring about updates
  • Review updated estimate with clients
  • Prepare discharge instructions
  • Fill medications TGH
  • Review patient charges for accuracy and correct as necessary. Compare charges against patient records for charge capture
  • Go over discharge instructions with clients
  • Callbacks on blood work and refill prescription requests that do not require doctor interaction.
  • Review medical records prior to appointments to verify referral partner records have been received for transfers and medical records are up-to-date and accurate
  • Point of contact between client and doctor – obtaining history via phone
  • Intermediary point of contact between doctor and client:
  • Prepare discharge instructions
  • Fill medications TGH
  • Review patient charges for accuracy and correct as necessary. Compare charges against patient records for charge capture
  • Go over discharge instructions with clients

Who you are:

  • Prior veterinary experience required, previous emergency experience desired
  • Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
  • Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
