We are looking for:

Neurology Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)

What you’ll do:

  • Assist doctors with daily scheduled neurology appointments, emergency neurologic cases, as well as inpatient consultations for canine and feline patients
  • Demonstrate a good working knowledge of general anesthesia
  • Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs
  • Continuous expansion of knowledge and skillset; advanced anesthetic skills include arterial line placement, epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management
  • Thorough understanding of anesthetic considerations and how comorbidities affect case protocol and perioperative management 
  • Obtain patient vitals, venipuncture, IVC placement, bladder palpation/expression, cystocentesis, blood & specimen handling/submission, administer chemotherapy drugs, generate patient discharges, etc
  • Work under the guidance of the neurologists to relay information to clients over the phone and face to face
  • Compose accurate and thorough documentation of medical records, treatment sheets, and patient charges
  • Assist with spinal and joint tap procedures
  • Assist in surgical procedures: obtain vertebral landmark radiographs, prep & sterilely scrub surgical sites, surgical pack opening, pre & post patient transport, and urinary catheter placement
  • Properly follow state and federal controlled substance policies 
  • Continue learning and be mentored when needed to adapt to a new workflow and enhance current skill set
  • On call required for nights and weekends - rotational schedule 

Who you are:

  • Illinois State Certified Veterinary 7daysTechnician license or transferable license preferred 
  • Prior veterinary experience required, previous neurology, surgery or anesthesia experience desired
  • Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
  • Flexibility with work hours and able to work weekends, holidays, and additional hours when necessary
  • Team player with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to display consideration, courtesy, compassion, and professionalism in all interactions with patients, clients, and hospital staff
