Data Engineer
This role is responsible for developing and maintaining data warehouse structures, data models, ETL/ELT pipelines, and governed datasets using Microsoft Fabric and related Microsoft data platform tools. 

The Data Engineer partners with analytics, IT, and business stakeholders to understand source systems, define data requirements, create reliable data flows, and ensure data is accurate, secure, and ready for reporting and advanced analytics. 

Responsibilities:

•    Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines, Lakehouse solutions, and data warehouse structures that support enterprise analytics and reporting needs. 

•    Architect data workflows that align operational source systems, curated data layers, semantic models, and enterprise data warehouse standards. 

•    Build and optimize ETL/ELT processes, data ingestion patterns, transformations, and orchestration workflows using Microsoft Fabric, SQL, pipelines, notebooks, and related tools. 

•    Develop and maintain dimensional models, fact and dimension tables, data marts, and analytics-ready datasets for Power BI and other reporting platforms. 

•    Implement data quality checks, validation routines, reconciliation processes, and governance standards to ensure trusted and consistent data delivery. 

•    Write, tune, and troubleshoot SQL, Spark SQL, and/or PySpark code to support data transformation, warehouse performance, and reporting needs. 

•    Monitor and improve performance of pipelines, warehouse queries, semantic models, scheduled refreshes, and data processing workflows. 

•    Partner with analysts and business stakeholders to translate reporting and analytics requirements into reliable data structures and reusable datasets. 

•    Document data lineage, source-to-target mappings, technical specifications, test scripts, policies, and support procedures. 

•    Collaborate with IT, reporting, analytics, and operational teams to support secure, governed, and scalable data solutions. 

•    Continually evolve MedVet’s data platform, data warehouse, and data engineering practices to support a data-driven organization. 

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate has a minimum of 3 years of data engineering, data warehouse, data modeling, or data platform experience, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft data platform tools, and business intelligence environments is strongly preferred. 

•    Experience in the healthcare and/or veterinary industry is a plus but not required. In addition, this position requires: 

•    Strong knowledge of data warehouse concepts, dimensional modeling, relational data modeling, ETL/ELT patterns, and analytics data architecture 

•    Effective communication with technical and non-technical team members in both verbal and written formats 

•    Strong analytical, problem solving and conceptual skills

•    Ability to work independently, but maintain active and timely communication with the requestor in a fast-paced environment

•    Ability to manage multiple projects and adjust priorities as necessary

•    Required Technical Skills

•    Microsoft Fabric, including Data Factory pipelines, Lakehouse, Warehouse, OneLake, notebooks, and semantic model integration 

•    Advanced SQL/T-SQL, data modeling, data warehouse design, ETL/ELT development, and performance optimization 

Preferred Technical Skills

•    Power BI, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Databricks, Python/PySpark, Spark SQL, Git/Azure DevOps, APIs, and cloud data platform experience 

•    Proficient with leveraging AI and generative AI tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) to augment data analysis, automate workflows, and improve productivity.
