Role Summary
The Regional Medical Director (RMD) provides regional leadership in dyad partnership with the VP of Clinical Services (VPCS) to lead the Healthcare Team.  The RMD, who reports to a Chief Medical Officer (CMO), is the regional leader of Medical Services that oversees all Medical Directors (MDs). The RMD promotes a culture that supports development of engaged and empowered caregivers, who deliver the MedVet Experience in a healthy and sustainable manner while living MedVet’s core values of Teamwork, Leadership and Compassion. 
 
Successful dyad leadership provides representation of all caregivers, fosters diversity of thought, and leverages the variable experience and skill of our Medical Services and Clinical Services Teams.  The RMD directly supports the MD at each hospital and works collaboratively with each level of the MedVet organization to improve and sustain MedVet’s focus on evaluating, planning, and implementing the delivery of best-in-class healthcare to MedVet patients in support of our mission – Leading Specialty Healthcare for Pets. 
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
  • In partnership with the VP of Clinical Services (VPCS), serves as an overall leader for the regional healthcare teams (Dyad Leadership).
  • Cultivate a strong working relationship between the Medical Director (MD) and the Hospital Director (HD) of each hospital to ensure strong Dyad Leadership of the Healthcare Team
  • Identify and develop future MDs to lead MedVet hospitals to excellence
  • Lead the MDs in the region by partnering with HR to provide ongoing coaching, written feedback and develop annual performance goals for each MD
  • Coach MDs to have the skills to engage, develop and mentor clinicians and department representatives within their hospital
  • Leads and/or participates in the management and implementation of a variety of projects that impact the Healthcare team across the organization in collaboration with Clinical Services and Support Services team members
  • Partner with the MD and HR Partner to address any performance or communication issues including development of performance improvement plans
  • Overall accountability, in partnership with MD and Talent Acquisition, for recruitment, interviews, hiring, on-boarding and ongoing mentorship and retention of doctors.
  • Accountability for hiring veterinarians and negotiating veterinarian contracts within agreed upon parameters.
  • Oversee the Emergency and Specialty Services of the hospitals in the region to ensure the Healthcare Team has the resources and tools to deliver the MedVet Experience for patients, clients and Referral Partners and are operating in an efficient and sustainable manner
  • Organize the Regional Leadership Team including, the VPCS, Marketing Partner, HR Partner, and Operations Manager/Sr. Operations Partner to achieve clinical, operational and financial goals of the region
  • Actively participate on the Healthcare Steering Committee working in partnership with the CMO, C Chief Operating Officer (COO), VP of Clinical Services (VPCS) and Regional Medical Directors (RMDs) to develop and achieve clinical, operational, and financial goals of MedVet Leads and/or participates in the coordination and completion of a variety of projects that impact the Healthcare team across the organization in collaboration with Clinical Services and Support Services team members
  • Assist in ensuring the practice complies with the State Veterinary Medical Practice Act, OSHA and AAHA standards.
  • Accountable for the region’s Hospital Budget and Capital Budget. Includes revenue budget, expense budget, profit and loss statements, and management of payroll to revenue
  • Continually evaluate opportunities for the hospitals within the region for service growth and the addition of new services and provide regular assessments to the CMO and leader of Talent and Medical Recruitment
  • Organize Quarterly Results Management Meetings with VPCS, MD, HD and local support services for the region
  • Attend and participate in quarterly or semi-annual town halls for all employees at hospitals within the region
  • Ensure Referral Partner relationships are constantly monitored and fostered in order to be strong and growing by fostering a culture supportive of Referral Partner outreach and CE activities.
  • Support MDs with resolution of patient care, client complaints and Referral Partner problems by periodic review of hospital’s complaint/adverse event log and addressing themes with MD and participate in the Medical Review Committee as needed
  • Participate in Denovo/M&A activity in the region as requested by the CEO or CMO 
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Medical Director or similar leadership role. In addition, this position requires:
  • Be a board-certified veterinary specialist or an experienced ER doctor; however, general practice veterinarians with appropriate leadership and management experience may be considered.
  • Able to travel approximately 50% of the time
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively and facilitate effective collaboration
  • Highly professional, strong work ethic, self-direction and integrity
  • Strong sense of culture and ability to influence behavior and drive change management
  • Exceptional writing skills, including composition, grammar and spelling
