VetRad is one of the nation's premier veterinary teleradiology providers, serving hundreds of veterinary hospitals, emergency clinics, and specialty referral centers across the United States. Through a team of highly experienced board-certified radiologists and support professionals, VetRad provides timely, high-quality diagnostic imaging interpretations that help veterinarians deliver exceptional patient care.
MedVet and VetRad are seeking an outstanding Director of Medical Imaging to provide strategic and medical leadership for diagnostic imaging services across MedVet and VetRad. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, this individual will serve as the primary physician leader for VetRad radiologists while partnering closely with operational leadership to advance medical quality, clinical excellence, physician engagement, client experience, and sustainable growth.
The Director of Medical Imaging will help shape the future of veterinary diagnostic imaging by developing enterprise-wide quality standards, supporting innovation and technology advancement, strengthening client relationships, and ensuring consistent delivery of exceptional radiology services. This leader will also serve as, or partner closely with, MedVet's Radiology Specialty Leader to establish and maintain specialty standards across the organization.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Medical Leadership & Clinical Excellence
- Establish and promote a culture of clinical excellence across MedVet and VetRad imaging services.
- Develop, implement, and monitor radiology medical quality standards, clinical protocols, and best practices.
- Lead initiatives focused on continuous improvement in diagnostic accuracy, report quality, turnaround times, and patient outcomes.
- Support radiology-related clinical processes, workflows, and systems across MedVet hospitals and VetRad.
- Provide leadership during quality reviews, peer review activities, and clinical performance improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with Medical Directors and hospital leadership to address radiology-related clinical needs and provide expert consultation.
- Serve as or partner with MedVet's Radiology Specialty Leader to advance specialty standards, innovation, and strategic initiatives.
- Support the development and implementation of evidence-based imaging protocols throughout the organization.
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide direct leadership for all VetRad radiologists.
- Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and retain highly qualified radiologists.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, professional development, and performance management.
- Lead regular radiologist meetings to communicate priorities, organizational updates, and business initiatives.
- Foster caregiver engagement, wellness, retention, and career development.
- Build a collaborative, high-performing team culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and clinical excellence.
- Support succession planning and leadership development within the radiology team.
Client Experience & Relationship Management
- Foster strong relationships with MedVet hospitals, referral partners, and external VetRad clients.
- Ensure radiologists maintain meaningful relationships with client hospitals and referring veterinarians.
- Serve as the medical escalation point for client concerns, complaints, and service issues.
- Partner with radiologists to strengthen communication, responsiveness, and collaboration with referring veterinarians.
- Participate in client visits, educational opportunities, and strategic business reviews when appropriate.
- Promote a service-oriented culture focused on partnership, responsiveness, and exceptional client experience.
Ultrasound Education Leadership
Provide oversight of MedVet's Non-DVM Ultrasound Training Program by:
- Establishing educational standards and curriculum.
- Supporting instructor development and program consistency.
- Evaluating learner competency and educational outcomes.
- Ensuring program quality, effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
- Identifying opportunities for innovation, expansion, and long-term program growth.
Dyad Leadership Responsibilities
Working in partnership with VetRad operational leadership, the Director of Medical Imaging will:
- Ensure the highest standards of medical quality throughout VetRad.
- Balance radiologist staffing, scheduling, and reading capacity with client demand.
- Develop strategies that support sustainable growth and service excellence.
- Participate in strategic planning and long-range business initiatives.
- Lead operational performance reviews and results management discussions.
- Evaluate key performance indicators and implement improvement initiatives.
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and business planning activities.
- Partner with operational leaders to optimize imaging workflows, resource utilization, and service delivery.
Strategic Leadership
- Contribute to the enterprise imaging strategy across MedVet and VetRad.
- Identify emerging trends, technologies, and innovations in veterinary diagnostic imaging.
- Evaluate opportunities involving advanced imaging technologies, workflow optimization, and artificial intelligence applications.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, new service launches, and organizational growth initiatives involving imaging services.
- Represent diagnostic imaging services on executive committees, specialty leadership groups, and interdisciplinary leadership teams.
- Collaborate with leaders across the organization to ensure imaging services continue to evolve alongside the needs of patients, caregivers, and hospital partners.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable veterinary, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
- Lead quality assurance and peer review programs across imaging services.
- Promote a culture of patient safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor clinical outcomes and quality metrics to support ongoing performance improvement.
- Maintain strong clinical governance practices and quality oversight across the enterprise.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Our ideal candidate is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) and a board-certified veterinary radiologist (DACVR or equivalent) with a minimum of 8-10 years of clinical radiology experience. Experience leading veterinary specialists and working within complex, multi-site healthcare organizations is strongly preferred.
Additionally, this position requires:
- Progressive leadership experience managing veterinary specialists, physician teams, or clinical service lines.
- Experience recruiting, mentoring, developing, and retaining veterinarians.
- Demonstrated success leading medical quality, peer review, and clinical performance initiatives.
- Experience working within a matrixed or dyad leadership structure.
- Experience supporting multi-site healthcare organizations preferred.
- Advanced expertise in veterinary diagnostic imaging and radiology services.
- Strong understanding of clinical governance, quality systems, and medical leadership principles.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to influence stakeholders across departments, specialties, and organizational levels.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
