We are looking for: 

Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant 

Ophthalmology is a fast-paced service with a high caseload, alternating between appointment and surgery days, with occasional emergency appointments. You will assist with hands on work with the patients during appointment days and preparing surgery packs, prepping patients, and setting up operating rooms.

 
What you’ll do: 

  • Restrain and assist during examinations, including obtaining vital signs and eye pressures and performing tear testing
  • Perform diagnostic testing, including; blood draws, blood pressures, and blood glucose readings
  • Prepare go-home prescriptions and call in outside prescriptions, when applicable
  • Perform ERG (electroretinogram) and ocular ultrasounds pre-surgery
  • Coordinate interdepartmental communication, services, patient transfers, and in-house consults
  • Prepare and communicate discharge instructions with pet owners for both appointments and surgeries
  • Be a liaison between the doctor and the pet owner both in person and over the phone
  • Administrative work including, but not limited to; documenting physical exams, patient histories from owners, recommended course of treatment, and scheduling further appointments.
  • Clean instruments and prepare surgical packs; setup, clean, and tear down operating rooms on surgery days or for emergency procedures
  • Prep patients for surgery, including shaving around the eye and helping registered technicians prepare the patient for anesthesia.
  • Collecting payment at time of discharge

Who are you: 

  • Prior veterinary experience required, previous ophthalmology (human or animal) experience desired 
  • Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary for emergency appointments and surgeries
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
