Manager - Technology PMO
We have an opportunity for a strong Manager, Technology PMO to join our team in SFO developing cloud based software solutions for clinical trials. Manger leads Project Management staff; and directs the week-to-week activities of PM subordinates.
In this role, you will lead a team responsible for program level initiatives, software development projects, technical projects, and process improvements within the Technology organization.
The Manager will also work across the portfolio with Product Managers, functional stakeholders and management to ensure standardized processes are established across the software development lifecycle and release management to drive the development of high quality, high value software products within an Agile environment.
Lead Project Management staff; and direct the week-to-week activities of PM subordinates, coordinate efforts of PMs to ensure consistent, accurate, and timely status reporting across the entire PMO.
Communicates program strategy to project managers, solution leads and development leads.
Responsible for coaching and onboarding new project managers
Provide oversight for product releases assigned to your direct reports
Provide Risk Management Oversight. Ensure risks are managed properly, published to a product team risk register, proactively communicated to management in a timely manner, and offer creative solutions when required.
Perform the role of scrum master and project manager to manage one or two programs across multiple teams.
Ensure that project plans, schedules, issues lists, status reports, risks, and meeting agendas with action items are maintained by your direct reports as per defined process.
Ensure standardized processes are established across software development lifecycle and release management.
Support your direct reports in leading adoption of Agile / Scrum methodology via training and coaching.
Strong assessment skills with an ability to evaluate wants vs. needs and ability to negotiate prioritization accordingly
Demonstrate a commitment and effort to adopt the Medidata Leadership drivers (think, team, learn, do) and integrate them into their daily work activity
Experience in interacting and managing the Sr. Leadership expectations
Experience in portfolio level management reporting
Your Education & Experience:
Masters or Bachelor degree or equivalent experience
Minimum of 6 years of software development and/or project management experience is required
Background in applying rigorous project management practices preferred
PMI certification (for example, PMP or PMI ACP, or PRINCE 2) preferred
Certified Scrum Master (CSM) required
A history of successfully delivering commercial software products on-time, on-budget with the agreed upon scope preferred
Experience with implementing large scale systems a plus
People management experience
Proficiency with Jira Agile, Confluence, GoogleDocs a plus
Leads process improvement initiatives within the Technology organization.
Accountable for program / project scope definition and setting overall strategy and objectives for the group of software development and/or technical projects.
Might be required to provide oversight of one or more vertical teams in the agile environment with accountability for the management of project timelines, scope and milestones for one or more projects.
Responsible for daily Scrums, Planning, Grooming and Retrospectives.
