Medidata is looking for a Communication Designer / Illustrator to help create engaging and delightful graphic elements, illustrations and information graphics and to integrate these assets into video storyboards, presentations, marketing collateral and general communications. These elements will also be integrated into our product user experiences to make our interfaces more human and approachable.
The Communication Designer / Illustrator will report to the Senior Director, Patient Cloud Design and will interact with product designers, product managers and execs to establish, implement and maintain a unique Patient Cloud visual experience and to deliver visual communication assets optimized for their target stakeholders. This position requires a designer / illustrator that has experience creating visual elements that are consistent with brand and visual guidelines, particularly those informed by our product UI visual language.
The ideal candidate must have experience designing, illustrating and in some cases writing, to match tone and style to sensitive contexts, balancing levity with thoughtfulness. The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate experience in scene and character development for motion graphics, explainer videos and in support of public websites and apps.
The candidate must actively follow the latest communication design trends (even if choosing to buck them), stay up-to-date on best practices and tools, contribute to the organization and health of our design asset library, and be a respectful team member who thrives in a collaborative environment, and has a strong reputation of accountability.
Adopt a patient-centered approach to design and illustration
Stay current on best practices, trends and patterns for infographics, animations, websites, and consumer and enterprise applications

Have an opinion and be willing to justify and defend that position
Work closely with stakeholders at all levels to deliver first-class communication designs and illustrations
2+ years experience as a professional communication designer, illustrator, motion graphic designer, or related profession
Versatile communication designer with an eye for layouts, typography, and colors
Sense of humor and quick wit
Solid understanding of leading technologies: mobile, web, social and productivity tools
Experience creating illustrations and design assets in a fast paced environment
Proficiency with common design tools (e.g. Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects (a plus), Procreate, etc.)
Your Education & Experience
BA or MA in visual design, communication design, illustration or related field and equivalent experience
A portfolio of relevant work samples
