Your Mission: 

  • Provides technical and programmatic leadership on a variety of programs spanning disciplines such as software and systems engineering, machine learning, and infrastructure

  • Performs systems engineering activities including leading architecture development, requirements analysis, creation of software and system specifications, functional analyses, and test plan creation

  • Provides programmatic leadership including staff evaluations, financial monitoring, recruiting, and mentoring.

  • Performs hands on leadership role in the development of prototypes and systems

  • Demonstrates advanced skills in people management and leadership

  • Solves complex engineering challenges

  • Has a detailed and analytical approach to engineering

  • Implements new processes and procedures within the software and systems teams to ensure successful project execution, code and system reuse, and compliance to regulatory requirements

  • Responsible for overseeing custom solution development for Medidata clients using the appropriate technical resources within Technical Services (including third party partner) and wider Medidata organisation as needed for assigned business unit (e.g. Market Segment) 

  • Provide direct relationship and partnership with stakeholders from internal business units within the Professional Services organization and senior management

  • Manage the technical teams that support delivery of custom solutions related to a particular business unit 

  • Manage the timelines for delivery, whilst following and enforcing the Medidata SDLC (SILC) to ensure all customizations are designed and developed 

  • Ensure completion and correctness of incoming business requirements for specification delivery to the development team. 

  • Define and maintain team work schedule for all technical staff and all client projects associated with a particular business unit managing third party vendor relationships and resources. 

  • Responsible for working directly with assigned business units to manage current and forecasted demand and the portfolio of work including managing new requests and resolving escalations and issues as needed 

  • Support the discussions on cost and timelines working closely with the wider Technical Services teams including third party partner to provide input as needed 

  • Collaborate across cross functional teams including Quality Control, IT Service Delivery, Customer Services, and Product owners to get custom solutions developed and implemented. Provide scheduled updates to the VP of Technical Services and other business areas as required 

  • Help define team and individual goals that are in line with Departmental/Divisional goals

Your Competencies: 

  •  Experience working in a fast-paced environment with many active simultaneous projects 

  • Consulting attitude while working with demanding clients on tight budgets and schedules 

  • Experience working in a regulated, validated environment (CFR 21 Part 11, ICH GCP, GxP) 

  • Superior organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written 

  • Total commitment to quality and attention to detail 

  • Flexible, team-player approach 

  • Strong project & resource management experience Experience with one or more project planning tools (for example MS Project, Smartsheet, etc.)

  • Excellence with MS Office and / or Google Apps suites required Travel expectations up to 10% – 20%, national / international

Your Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degree required in computer science, information systems, mathematics, biomedical, computer engineering or related disciplines is required

  • Consulting / Professional Services experience strongly preferred 3+ years in a customer facing role overseeing customer deliverables 

  • Life Sciences experience is strongly preferred, with preferred knowledge of clinical systems (CTMS, EDC, CDM, randomization, coding, drug supply, etc.) 

  • Typically 8+ years of industry/ work experience with a master’s degree, 

  • Experience in a production software development environment strongly preferred 6+ years experience in engineering and management roles  as an engineering director.

  • Performed complex engineering activities including architecture, development, requirements analysis, creation of software and system specifications, functional analyses, test plan creation and developed prototypes in science and technology

  • Implemented new processes and procedures within the software teams to ensure successful project execution, code and system reuse, and compliance to regulatory requirements.  

  • Have led / guided concepts from development to production, deployment and maintenance.

  • Worked on a multi stakeholder environment managing cross functional relationships including software engineers, program managers, business analysts, technical managers

  • Provided programmatic leadership including staff evaluations, financial monitoring, recruiting, and mentoring

  •  Identified and developed new sources of revenue through engagement with customers  

  • Provided technical guidance and program planning to a variety of customers over multiple engineering disciplines creating strong strategic relations with customers internal and external.  

  • Experienced in data acquisition, visualization and analysis, derived from sensors will be preferable
