Your Mission: 

Medidata’s Patient Cloud teams are singularly focused on empowering and engaging patients throughout the clinical trial lifecycle. Designed by patients for patients, our technology and expertise enables the next generation of decentralized trials to create a better overall study experience.

As an Applications Engineer, you are an integral part of our team building cloud-native, web applications and services. You will design, implement, deploy and support our Patient Cloud product suite in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You are an energetic, motivated, hands-on developer, passionate about building scalable solutions and will individually contribute in the following ways:

  • Independently implement solutions for features within your area of expertise

  • Write and review PRs with a focus on ensuring best practices and improving our products.

  • Document code and maintain applications as new functionality is developed and rolled out

  • Communicate and work closely with management to schedule and drive the delivery of features, estimate task timeframes, and follow agile iteration processes

  • Demonstrate a passion for your craft, be self-motivated and eager to engage in high impact, challenging engineering problems while continuously raising the standard of quality in our products

  • Stay current with new technologies and engineering concepts

  • Follow Medidata’s Standard Operating Procedures to ensure all software meets regulatory and company requirements

Your Competencies: 

Proficient in:

  • Implementation and development with Ruby, Python, Java or another object-oriented language

  • SaaS/SOA application design with modern web frameworks

  • PostgresSQL, MySQL, or similar relational database management system (RDBMS)

Experience with:

  • Developing enterprise-class web API patterns and protocols, REST, GraphQL

  • Amazon Web Services including containerized/serverless applications

  • Understanding of source control management (Git/GitHub)

  • Single Page Application libraries or frameworks such as ReactJS or AngularJS

  • Understanding of the DOM

Familiarity in:

  • CI/CD and automated testing harnesses and infrastructure

  • Debugging tools and techniques, especially in a SOA context

  • Developing services supporting mobile applications

  • Agile software development, revision control, collaboration, and build tools such as JIRA, Travis, Git

  • UNIX-based: tools, OS, Stack

Your Education & Experience: 

  • 1+ years experience developing web or mobile applications and services

  • B.S. or M.S. Computer Science, Engineering, related field or relevant experience

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Experience working in a regulated environment or with clinical research processes a plus
