Our R&D  Team

Medidata’s R&D Team, which includes Cloud Engineering, Information Systems Security, Data Fabric and Mobile, builds platform infrastructure and advanced products to help companies bring new treatments to market. We are making amazing strides towards how new medicines are identified and developed by our clients (BioTechs and Pharmaceuticals for example) via Machine Learning, AI and other cutting edge technologies.

Your Mission

The Release Engineer is a key contributor to the development and operation of the Release Engineering function at Medidata as we continue to expand our Clinical Cloud platform. The Release Engineer is primarily responsible for implementing tools and processes that enable Continuous Delivery of individual products and our Software as a Service (SaaS) platform as a whole. In addition, the Release Engineer is responsible for the successful delivery of software to production operation using established tools and processes.

Your Competencies 

  • Evaluate, develop, implement and operate core Release Engineering tools and processes for continuous build, automated testing and release management
  • Define standard practices for the successful implementation of Continuous Delivery, including but not limited to application packaging, version control systems for products and infrastructure, deployment pipelines, test stages and dependency management
  • Develop and maintain libraries of deployment automation used in all stages of software development, testing and production operations
  • Own specific deployment problems and provide Solutions that improve the overall efficiency and quality of platform deployments
  •  Manage the transformation of developed software into deployable, supportable services by integrating with established deployment tools, standard infrastructure and monitoring / alerting systems Responsible for delivering assigned software projects to full production operation, adhering to established procedures for development, testing and release activities
  • Responsible for the effective hand-off of delivered software to operations staff, including training, documentation and runbooks as appropriate
  • Responsible for proactively identifying, debugging, resolving and communicating to various stakeholders technical and procedural issues in the release process

Your Competencies:

  • Must demonstrate a willingness and desire to drive innovative Release Engineering solutions in a dynamic, growing Life Sciences software company
  • Must demonstrate command of Continuous Integration techniques and concepts. Experience with Jenkins, Hudson, CruiseControl or Go preferred
  • Ability to automate deployment and operations tasks using a variety of languages, frameworks and techniques is required. Experience with Ruby, Chef, Ansible, Web Deploy, Docker or PowerShell preferred
  • Must demonstrate command of version control techniques and concepts. Experience with Git or GitHub preferred
  • Understanding of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) integration and concepts. Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) is required; additionally VMware
  • Must demonstrate understanding of automated testing techniques and concepts.
  • Must demonstrate understanding of and exposure to modern development practices including Agile and Test Driven Development
  • Must demonstrate broad understanding of application architectures and computing environments. Experience with Windows and Linux, Ruby on Rails or .NET preferred
  • Ability to understand development requirements and translate to technical solutions.
  • Ability to work and effectively communicate in a dynamic team setting with broad cross-functional dependencies. Experience with DevOps practices is preferred
  • Ability to effectively estimate and manage personal workload, balancing project work and day to day support

Your Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
