Law Clerk, Consumer Protection Division, Summer 2026
Description
The Maryland Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking motivated and detail-oriented Law Clerks to support the Consumer Protection Division in advancing the mission of protecting the public from unfair, deceptive, and abusive trade practices. This is an excellent opportunity for current law students to gain hands-on experience in government legal practice, which may include working on investigations and litigation. Law clerk assignments may include:
- Conducting legal research and drafting memoranda on a wide range of consumer protection and other legal issues;
- Conducting factual research and drafting synopses;
- Interviewing consumers and witnesses;
- Assisting in the preparation of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs;
- Reviewing, summarizing, and analyzing transcripts, contracts, and other evidence;
- Supporting attorneys in litigation preparation, including discovery and trial preparation;
- Attending hearings, depositions, and meetings;
- Assisting with legislative and regulatory review and analysis; and
- Performing other duties as assigned in support of the Consumer Protection Division.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in an accredited law school;
- Strong legal research and writing skills;
- Demonstrated interest in public service, administrative law, or litigation;
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines;
- Familiarity with Westlaw, LexisNexis, or other legal research tools;
- Exercises common sense and sound judgment;
- Enthusiastic about advancing consumer protection matters;
- Professionalism, discretion, and a commitment to ethical legal practice.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a public law office, legal clinic, or government agency;
- Experience working in a firm handling civil litigation;
- Coursework in consumer protection law, administrative law, or public interest law; and
- Familiarity with the Maryland Consumer Protection Act, Maryland law, and court procedures.
