The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State’s legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness. 
 
As a Law Clerk with the Office of the Secretary of State, you will support the Assistant Attorneys General (AAGs) in investigating and prosecuting violations of the Maryland Solicitations Act (Title 6, Business Regulation Article, Annotated Code of Maryland). This role involves drafting and reviewing administrative subpoenas and cease and desist orders for legal sufficiency, interviewing witnesses, and preparing affidavits.
 
You will also participate in charitable enforcement efforts by attending client meetings with AAGs and assisting in tracking and monitoring the progress of ongoing investigations.
In addition to charitable enforcement work, the Law Clerk will provide comprehensive legal support to the AAGs across various agency programs.
 
Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Conduct in-depth legal research on complex administrative and statutory issues.
  • Draft formal legal memoranda
  • Provide legal advice on matters arising from the daily operations of agency programs, including:
    • Charitable Organizations Division
    • Notaries Division
    • Maryland Safe at Home/Address Confidentiality Program
    • International Division
    • Trademark Division
Qualifications:
Experience in nonprofit management, consumer protection, or government investigations is a plus, but not required.
