The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking a skilled and motivated Attorney to provide legal support and counsel on a broad range of natural resource management issues. This position will support the department's mission to conserve, protect, and manage the state’s natural resources by ensuring legal compliance and promoting responsible stewardship.

The successful candidate will provide legal services in areas such as environmental law, administrative law, water rights, land use, wildlife conservation, forestry, public lands, mineral leasing, permitting, and regulatory enforcement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and representation to the DNR and its divisions in matters related to natural resource management and environmental regulation.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including contracts, permits, enforcement actions, rulemakings, and memoranda of understanding.
  • Represent the agency in administrative hearings, court proceedings, and public meetings.
  • Interpret state and federal laws, regulations, and policies related to land, water, air quality, wildlife, energy development, and public access.
  • Work collaboratively with agency leadership, scientists, policy makers, and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing and reviewing agency rules and regulations to ensure legal compliance and policy consistency.
  • Advise on legislative matters, including bill analysis and statutory interpretation.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare formal opinions on complex environmental and administrative issues.
