The Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division is seeking an experienced and motivated investigator to serve as the primary investigator for the Opioids Enforcement Unit, while also assisting with other investigations across the Division. The Opioids Enforcement Unit focuses on investigating and supporting enforcement actions related to the manufacture, distribution, and marketing of opioid products, as well as monitoring compliance with opioid-related settlements. The position is responsible for working with the Division’s Chief Investigator and the Opioid’s Unit Assistant Attorneys General and Administrators to obtain, compile and maintain evidence; interview and take statements from consumers, and other witnesses; serve subpoenas and other documents; find documentary evidence, including through electronic sources of data; review, analyze, and report upon information or evidence uncovered or obtained during investigations; write investigative reports, affidavits and other necessary documents for enforcement proceedings; prepare and organize exhibits; and testify in enforcement proceedings. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple complex investigations simultaneously. 


The Investigator will play a key role in supporting attorneys in enforcement proceedings and consumer protection matters.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience: Five years of administrative  or professional work.

Preferred Qualifications :
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in investigative work, criminal or civil investigations, regulatory compliance, paralegal practice, or a closely related field.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Knowledge conducting complex investigations involving healthcare providers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, or other entities subject to state or federal regulation is highly desirable. Knowledge of issues related to opioid distribution, prescription drug monitoring, or public health enforcement is a plus.
  • Analytical and Research Skills: Demonstrated ability to collect, evaluate, and synthesize complex data and documentary evidence; experience using data analysis, case management, or regulatory tracking tools preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise, and well-documented investigative reports, affidavits, and correspondence.
  • Professional Integrity: Ability to manage confidential or sensitive information with discretion, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and database systems; familiarity with digital evidence management or research software desirable.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary enforcement team in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
