Description

The Charlotte Observer has an immediate need for a Stack Down  Person / Part Time at our Dow Jones Facility located in Charlotte, NC.  
The Charlotte Observer with deep roots in the Charlotte area, publishes The Charlotte Observer..

The Dow Jones Facility is a manufacturing/warehouse environment and runs printing presses, insert machinery and various equipment as part of the newspaper assembly. Newspapers are prepared in bundles for packaging delivery and shipped to the appropriate locations.

A primary focus of the Stack Down Person is to stack materials coming off of the inserting machines. 

Responsibilities:
  • Stack bundled materials on pallets
  • Operate the stretch wrap machine
  • Ensure pallets are stacked correctly
  • Move stacked pallets to loading area for next step in the packaging process
  • Assist in the set up and operation of the stacking and strapping machines
  • Assist when problems arise with machinery; in order to keep the machinery running
  • Operation of the stretch wrap machinery
  • Communicating with press crew regarding print defects and/or shortages
  • Ensure bundle and skid integrity for our customers
Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug test
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, on a concrete floor, for at least 5 hours at a time
  • Ability to repeatedly lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Physical dexterity to lift, move material and pull bundles and stacks 
  • Good hand coordination to handle inserts and newspaper bundles of various sizes
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English
  • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance, including arriving on time for shifts. Additional hours may be required depending on workload.
  • Demonstrates common sense and ability to follow instructions
  • High School Diploma/GED, preferred
