Come spend the summer with us at South Carolina's flagship news organization.

We will build our internship around the skills and passions of the best candidate. Want to cover politics? We have a team covering the state capital. Want to cover college sports? We're home to the University of South Carolina and a stone's throw from Clemson. Want to work on investigations? We have a projects team that may be right for you.

Internships are 10 weeks, 40 hours per week, and internships are paid. You will cover local news, features and more. You will leave us with great clips and an unforgettable experience.

You also will be a part of our McClatchy South Carolina class of interns. In addition to the work experience, each class is exposed to a series of training sessions ranging from investigative tips to how to get a job when you graduate.

Qualifications include: 

  • The ability to write quickly, accurately and well;

  • The ability to monitor and mine various sources for breaking news;

  • Solid news judgment;

  • An instinctive grasp of what will engage your audience;

  • A deep understanding of what drives interest on Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms;

  • A strong entrepreneurial spirit, good curiosity and high energy;   

  • A collaborative style that allows you to work comfortably across teams spread throughout the office and company.

  • A familiarity shooting photos and video, including the use of entry-level video editing software, is preferred.
