
Commerce Data Analyst - (Temporary/Freelance)
Description
Commerce Data Analyst works with McClatchy’s various team members to support data-driven decisions on growing McClatchy’s revenues and profits in commerce, partnerships and data. Leads efforts to ensure McClatchy’s digital products offer the right recommendations to the right audiences that optimize McClatchy’s monetization opportunity on the traffic. Manages day-to-day reporting and performance management needs of the team. Continuously improves insights we glean from data and helps drive decisions that help the team achieve business goals.
This position is a temporary six-month project only.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build and maintains dashboards that measure key performance metrics of commerce content, partnerships and data revenue efforts
- Analyze partner and affiliate performance using available data from their dashboards and reports, recommend strategies to improve revenue and margin
- Monitor McClatchy’s and its affiliate network monetization, identify and execute profitability improvement
- Audit partner reports and rev shares as necessary
- Coordinate with internal resources and partners to drive continuous improvement in KPIs
- Maintain industry knowledge and benchmarks success in key commerce and data metrics
- Set up and measure A/B tests for trials
- Using data, help other stakeholders to improve conversion rates for commerce content
- Identify use cases for using data signals to increase non-search driven traffic to commerce-content
- Support data needs of McClatchy’s first-party data efforts
- Measure self-performance by business questions answered rather than reports generated
- Identify and recommend profit improvement opportunities using performance data
- Work on other duties and projects, as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Expert in assembling and making sense out of data to drive business decisions
- Very strong data analytics skills and deep expertise in data analytics tools & concepts
- Deep knowledge of performance-based marketing, commerce, affiliate businesses and monetization models
- Understanding of how identity, first-party data, contextual relevance and various data signals drive revenue in digital
- Excellent communication skills
- Innate ability to convert data to information
- Experience with affiliate networks, tracking and reporting mechanisms
- Ability to prioritize and to work under and meet short- and long deadlines in a fast-paced, data-driven work environment
- An understanding of audience trends and digital media
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and team player skill
- Ability to work well, be professional and courteous with a variety of stakeholders, external and internal
- Ability to work independently
- Must be able to work remotely while contributing to a team environment
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university or the equivalent education
Hands-on expertise in an industry-based analytics tool like Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, etc is a must. Expertise with Amplitude is a plus
Proficiency in SQL, BI tools like Tableau, Looker and relational database
Strong working knowledge of data modeling, warehousing, relational and non-relational data storage
Working knowledge in a programming language like Python, Javascript, .net etc is a plus
