Visual storytelling intern (Lexington)

The Lexington Herald-Leader seeks a smart, enterprising intern to join its award-winning visuals team in Lexington, Ky., in the heart of the Bluegrass.

For the summer, join a newsroom that covers everything from University of Kentucky sports to breaking news and enterprise stories throughout Lexington, Central and Eastern Kentucky. 

In our visuals intern, we’re seeking a versatile aspiring journalist who is skilled in photo, video, multimedia and video editing – and should not be afraid to report when circumstances warrant. You’ll need a passion for visual journalism, news and teamwork as you work alongside other journalists on the visuals and reporting teams.

In this intern role, you will need to:

  • Master engaging multimedia storytelling, including still photos and video

  • Demonstrate speed, competitiveness and digital savvy through aggregating, multimedia and storytelling tools

  • Work well in a team environment

  • Must have reliable transportation. Must have valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance required (at least minimum insurance required for the state in which the employee works).

  • Commitment to ethics.

  • Ability to work collaboratively to aggressively tackle story packages.

  • Comfort with a job that will be demanding, fast-paced and constantly evolving.
