Sport Video Intern
We are seeking an intern that will play a key role in our multimedia coverage of sports. This person will work closely with sports writers on the daily SportsBeatKC live shows and podcast episodes.
A key responsibility for this position will be game day coverage that involves editing/uploading and placing interview clips into stories and also posting to YouTube
They will also coordinate the post-game live show, and turn that into a podcast episode for the following day. This person should expect to work well past midnight for most games that start at 7 p.m. They will work most weekends.
During the week, this person will be expected to take care of Chiefs' interviews, either in person, or through editing interviews shot by visual journalists or posted by the Chiefs.
This person will also work closely with the video producer team and sports to identify other content that can be created, or aggregated, and that can be incorporated into stories or that can stand alone.
-Curate and produce video for related stories for The Kansas City Star.
-Monitor real-time analytics to manage and publish video content within a CMS and social platforms
-Optimize video with strong headlines, captions, summaries and blog posts
-Organize and maintain story budgets
-Independently conceive, research, write, shoot and edit compelling videos on a tight timeline
-Assist with production and planning of audio products
Special Training: Ability to masterfully edit video. Background in journalism, video and online media preferred.
-Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and team-player skills required.
-Professionalism, strategic-thinking experience and the ability to work with a broad section of colleagues are essential.
-Visual sensibility and experience contributing to interactive and multimedia work with creative concepts and implementation.
-Strong communication, reliable news judgment, ability to meet deadlines and coaching skills needed.
-An understanding of audience trends and digital media important.
-An interest and knowledge of sports is 100% essential to this position.

This position will be based in Kansas City. Remote-only is a possibility. This person will directly report to multimedia editor Todd Feeback. Some travel may be required.
