McClatchy is seeking a driven salesperson to join our forward-thinking Advertising Sales Team!  The ideal candidate for this outside sales position is local to the communities that The Merced Sun-Star serves. 

Merced is the county seat of Merced County, which is located in the heart of California’s fertile San Joaquin Valley. Merced is home to the University of California’s 10th and newest campus, which opened in the fall of 2005 and represents the first American research university built in the 21st century. The region’s economy has been based on agribusiness for generations but aspires to become an educational hub as UC Merced grows. The Sun-Star has twice been awarded first place in the state for general excellence among papers of its size in the California Newspaper Publishers Association’s Better Newspapers Contest.

Our Account Executives (AE) drive multi-media sales revenue from local accounts, following a defined sales process.  Successful AE's strive to understand a customer's needs and craft customized solutions for them, often with a focus on digital marketing. AE's understand our unique set of solutions and can drive results for their customers, resulting in successful marketing campaigns. 

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Retain and grow current account base
  • Prospect and acquire new customers utilizing the Core 4+ Sales Process
  • Conduct meetings with prospective customers, completing a thorough needs analysis
  • Develop customized proposals based on a customer's needs 
  • Present and close proposals
  • Work with our client success team to ensure client goals/expectations are met
  • Regularly meet and exceed meeting thresholds set by leaders
  • Utilize AdPoint as an organizational tool
