Audience Development Manager
Audience Development Manager for McClatchy’s News Experimentation Team
The News Experimentation Team at McClatchy, a team that focuses on how news products can positively impact communities, is hiring for an audience development leader.
It’s integral that this audience development manager understands the difference between community engagement and content distribution, and lives comfortably in both worlds, depending on the need of the project. This role will work across several experiments that include user research and product development, and so, a solid grasp of how social platforms work is necessary.
The right person will be just as excited about leading a Q&A on WhatsApp as they are collaborating with marketing on a live activation, or with design on a paid boost. They are the first person to share memes to the group chat, and also understand the value of listening to readers. We are counting on them to be a thought leader, guiding us through engagement experiments, but should also not be afraid to get their hands dirty in the work themselves.
This role reports to the managing editor of experimentation and works closely with colleagues in editorial, design and development across several time zones, on a team that values creativity, empathy, collaboration and personal growth.
This is a fully home-based remote position within the USA.
Passion for how audiences are consuming information across different mediums and platforms, including Instagram, WhatsApp, email and text.
Experience with paid social marketing across major platforms.
Strong interest in community engagement, including having strong listening skills and the ability to exhibit respect and patience.
Understanding of how to earn the trust of audiences.
Enthusiasm for experimenting and iterating, quickly and often, without fear of trying something new.
Excellent news judgment and journalism ethics, even across new formats.
Strong collaborative instincts and the ability to lead audience engagement efforts and thought leadership.
- 5+ years as a thought leader in social media and/or community engagement in a digital media organization.
