Preconstruction Engineer - Renewable Energy

McCarthy Building Co. is seeking a Preconstruction Engineer for our Solar EPC group based in Phoenix, AZ. This is a chance to join a fast-growing EPC group taking the lead on utility scale renewable energy projects. We are seeking individuals with previous solar design experience or with a recent degree in a related field.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and provide support as appropriate with conceptual and detailed design of renewable systems, specifically solar and battery energy storage.
- Support in the design review of electrical, civil, structural plans, specifications, calculations and studies.
- Support in the review of testing, commissioning plan and QA/QC documentation
- Conduct site visits and inspections, as well as face-to-face meetings with clients and industry partners as necessary
- Assist in pricing and bidding of renewable energy projects, performing quantity take-offs when necessary and conducting reviews of milestone documents for pricing of value alternative options
- Communicate with engineers, suppliers and consultants to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements as required
- Participate in the internal estimate review process and assist with final assembly of estimate for presentation to the client.
- Support in the collection and organization all bid information for future reference
- Support in the development of subcontracts and purchase orders for major equipment.
- Support in the estimation of projects by leading efforts to solicit proposals from subcontractors and vendors, as necessary.
- Champion standardization by identifying and documenting “Best Practices”
- Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors and internal clients, attending industry events and representing McCarthy in the community
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar required
- General knowledge of construction principles and processes
- Strong math and analytical skills with attention to detail
- Solid interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrate behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values while maintaining a "value added" approach to estimating.
