What We Offer

The Mattamy Homes Canada (MHC) Finance team’s vision is to be the best homebuilding and real estate development finance team in North America and the Director, FP&A will be an integral member on this journey. Leading a team of four and reporting to the SVP Finance, the Director, FP&A will be responsible for providing the Canadian management team with quantitative and qualitative decision support including proactive financial analysis. The Director, FP&A will partner with the Canadian Divisional Finance teams to accurately forecast, analyze, and report on Canada’s performance. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience running the annual budgeting and forecasting processes as well as experience building dynamic financial models that distill data into clear and concise presentations and reports. This role requires a strategic thinking self-starter, who is extremely proficient in finance systems and equally capable at presenting to all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the financial planning process for quarterly forecasts, annual budgeting, and the 5-year plan
  • Prepare dynamic financial models, reports, and presentations to support data-driven recommendations for MHC’s existing projects and new business initiatives, including analysis of MHC performance as compared to internal targets and external benchmarks
  • Ownership of the MHC suite of current and future financial reports. Continuously seek to improve the quality and efficiency of MHC reporting, including enhancing financial models & reports and streamlining analysis & processes
  • Assist in the creation of guidance and timelines for the preparation of the MHC strategic plan and annual budget process. Conduct sensitivity analysis to determine the impact of changes to underlying assumptions on the annual budget and long-term strategic plan
  • Complete monthly and quarterly forecasts to budget variance analysis with commentary
  • Analyze and identify trends in key performance drivers to facilitate the review of actual financial results compared to the budgets and forecasts
  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute reports and presentations to the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.
  • Continuously seek to improve the quality and efficiency of these reports
  • Accountable for the MHC’s annual Fair Market Value and Post-Acquisition Analytics reviews
  • Foster strong working relationships across the divisional businesses, and work proactively to identify opportunities for finance to act as a strategic business partner
  • Provide support and/or lead ad hoc projects as necessary

 

What You Bring

  • University Degree, with a focus in Finance or Accounting
  • Accounting designation (i.e. CPA or CFA)
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in financial planning and forecasting, corporate finance, or similar role at a medium to large organization
  • Experience with financial planning and forecasting tools such as OneStream or Hyperion, is a strong asset
  • Experience accessing data from JD Edwards or comparable cross-industry ERP system is strongly preferred
  • Excellent financial modelling and planning skills, with a track record and orientation towards continuous improvement
  • Sound judgment, with the ability to critically analyze situations, problem-solve, and deal with ambiguity
  • Strong customer focus with excellent relationship building and a collaborative working style
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current Canadian accounting standards under ASPE
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Hands on, detail oriented with ability to think strategically
  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and personal integrity
  • Demonstrates proficiency in MS Office applications; ability to quickly learn and demonstrate functional competence with financial systems
