What we offer

The General Accountant will be a key contributor within a growing and collaborative finance team, supporting the financial operations of a dynamic and evolving manufacturing start-up.

The General Accountant safeguards the integrity of the books and supports a disciplined month-end close, with hands-on ownership of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, fixed asset accounting, HST/indirect tax compliance, audits and year-end activities. In our scaling manufacturing environment, this role partners with Cost/Operations to keep inventory subledgers, WIP, and variances accurate and auditable, and helps mature our ERP-driven control environment as we scale.

What you’ll do

Month-End Close & General Ledger

  • Prepare and post journal entries (accruals, prepaids, deferrals, intercompany); maintain close checklists to hit calendar deadlines. Own balance sheet reconciliations (cash, AR/AP subledgers, inventory, prepaids, accruals, payroll-related accounts), ensuring reconciling items are cleared promptly.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and daily cash postings;
  • Contribute to quarterly and annual financial reporting packages and supporting documentation.

Fixed Assets & Capex

  • Maintain the fixed asset subledger; apply capitalization policy and start depreciation accurately; reconcile to the GL monthly.
  • Support capex governance: ensure POs/invoices align to projects, commissioning dates, and asset tags; prepare CIP to FA transfers

Inventory & Cost Accounting (Manufacturing)

  • Partner with Operations/Cost Accounting to keep inventory subledgers (Raw/WIP/FG) and WIP accurate;
  • Support standard cost updates, BOM/routing changes, and variance analysis (PPV, usage, rate/efficiency, OH absorption).

Tax & Compliance

  • Support in the preparation and filing of tax returns; reconcile transactions to the GL/subledgers; maintain evidence for audits.

AR/AP & Cash

  • Provide backup/oversight for AP/AR (3way match, credit memos, aging reviews).
  • Assist with intercompany settlements and confirmations (if applicable).

ERP, Data & Process

  • Become a power user in the ERP (Odoo experience is an asset);
  • Drive automation and document SOPs/controls as the business scales.

Other duties as assigned

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree, with a specialization in Finance or Accounting, CPA (completed or in progress) preferred.
  • 3+ years of hands-on general accounting experience with full month-end close ownership, fixed assets, and reconciliations; manufacturing or product-based environment is an asset (inventory/WIP exposure).
  • Working knowledge of ASPE and Canadian indirect tax (HST) compliance.
  • Proven hands-on experience with ERP systems, preferably in a manufacturing or operational environment.
  • Advanced analytical ability with strong Excel proficiency; able to interpret complex data and deliver clear, actionable insights.
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, deadline discipline, and clear written documentation for auditability.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Bonus Points

  • Prior experience in manufacturing start-ups, or other fast-paced, evolving environments.
