We have been a lifeline to communities in the Pacific since 1882, when the first Matson ship carried food and plantation supplies from San Francisco to Hilo, Hawaii. Over the years, our company pioneered innovations that are now global industry standards, such as cargo refrigeration, containerized shipping, gantry cranes, and environmental policies such as zero solid waste discharge.
Today, our ships and containers transport needed groceries, retail merchandise, household goods, vehicles, and more from the U.S. West Coast to Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, and communities in the South Pacific. We move essential supplies to support our troops in Japan, Hawaii, Guam, Kwajalein, and Alaska. We also operate the leading expedited ocean transportation services in the world’s largest surface transportation market connecting Asia to the U.S.
We Take Cargo Further
Our logistics subsidiary extends the geographic reach of Matson’s ocean transportation network. We move products directly from the factory floor to the retail store or our company-owned and operated distribution centers, including one of the largest foreign trade zones on the West Coast. Whether it’s one pallet or full container loads, we have the depth to move cargo by ship, truck or train to and throughout North America and around the globe. Our third-party logistics (3PL) services orchestrate tailored supply chain solutions for a wide variety of retail customers, large and small.
