JOB TITLE:        Command Center Dispatcher               
DEPARTMENT: Transit Operations 
REPORTS TO:   Superintendent of Operations and Command Center 
 
JOB FUNCTION:  Dispatches specialized transportation vehicle operations through radio contact with vehicle operators. Responsible for communications through OMNI alert.  
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  1. Maintains computer-radio communication system by updating computer data as required to provide interface between voice communication and system data. Performs routine analysis checks between voice and data system to insure proper functioning of entire communication system.
  2.  Provides field supervisors, dispatchers, and other staff members with information necessary to perform their assigned responsibilities. Assists Reservationist and Scheduler when necessary.
  3. Advises coach operators, through two-way radio system communication, by providing instructions and information regarding scheduling, route changes, etc. 
  4. Gathers and submits information on specialized transportation. Records late schedules and instructs operators in procedures to adjust schedules. 
  5. Notifies police of accidents and prepares and files accident reports. 
  6. Key contact person on the radio computer system maintenance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: 
  1. Maintains adequate stock level of supplies necessary for computerized radio system.
  2.  Trains personnel on the radio computer system as required.
  3.  Prepares reports and enters data into computer.
  4. Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School diploma or GED required 
 
Other:  
  1. Minimum 6 months’ experience as a bus and/or van operator. 
  2. Must have a working knowledge of existing MATA route system and the street network of the Memphis area. 
  3. Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public. 
  4. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite necessary to perform job duties, typing speed of 35-40 wpm.
  5. Requires ability to handle numerous activities at one time.
  6. Ability to understand and interpret bus operator rules and regulations. 
  7. Must be able to comprehend and learn to operate radio computer system within a 6-month period from entry into position. 
  8. Must possess a Class B ("P" endorsement) Commercial Driver's License.  
  9. Must be willing to comply with the company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.
  10. Regular and consistent attendance is required.
  11. Must always comply with safety and COVID protocols.
Environment 
  1. Extensive sitting is required while using office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, or fax machines.
  2. Some standing and walking during a normal workday will also be required as well as bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  3. Most work will be performed in inside working conditions but should be able to tolerate changes in building environments such as with or without air conditioning or heating.
  4. May be required occasionally to move up to 20 pounds by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise repositioning objects.
  5. Fingering and repetitive motions will be required for data entry, while picking items up or while filing.
  6. Able to express or exchange ideas with others accurately and at an easily audible volume through the use of spoken words. Able to receive detailed information through oral communication or by phone at usual speaking levels and differentiate between sounds in the environment.
  7. Close visual acuity to perform detail-oriented activities as well as acuity to perform activities at or within arm’s reach with skill, control and accuracy such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing a computer screen or for significant reading of documents and other materials.
