JOB TITLE:                 Coin Room Supervisor

REPORTS TO:            Chief of Safety & Security
                                   
JOB FUNCTION: Responsible for the collection, processing, shipping, and security of all fare box revenues and for the cleaning, operation, and maintenance of all associated equipment.   
  
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILITIES:
  • Supervise the daily operation of the Coin Room including security and equipment per company regulations.  
  • Establish and implement policies, procedures and work methods for the operation of the Coin Room.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures.
  • Supervise the counting of fare box revenues and the preparation of bank deposits.
  • Coordinate the transporting of revenues to the bank.
  • Supervise and participate in the exchange of fare box vaults and the deposit of revenue into receiver units.
  • Train new and existing Coin Room personnel on the fare collection system.   
  • Evaluate departmental personnel through job performance evaluations.
  • Work with employees to correct performance deficiencies and administer disciplinary action when warranted.
  • Operate revenue collection equipment, including probes and fare boxes.
  • Oversee and participate in the inspection and cleaning of fare collection equipment and money room.
  • Maintain records of inventory and receipt and distribution of passes.
  • Reconcile and analyze revenue to ridership and verify revenue sheets.
  • Perform physical inventory of revenue and service vehicles.
  • Submit department employee hours to the CFO.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inventory spare fare boxes, vaults, probes, keys and tickets.
  • Advise maintenance foremen of any needed repairs of fare collection equipment and verify satisfactory completion of repairs.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  High school diploma or GED required. An Associate’s Degree is preferred.
 
Other:    
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in revenue collection including previous dealings with
  • large amounts of money.
  • Knowledge of cashier/bank operations to include Federal Reserve requirements.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of fare collection equipment.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and be detail-oriented.
  • Must possess good oral, written and communications skills.
  • Must be able to operate a personal computer and be proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Must possess good basic math skills and be able to use a calculator.
  • Must be able to professionally deal with the public and co-workers both on the telephone and in person.  Must be bondable and be able to pass a background security check.
  • Requires ability to handle numerous activities at one time. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license. 
Environment:  Extensive sitting is required while using office equipment such as computers, phones, etc. Some standing and walking in the course of a normal workday will also be required as well as bending, stooping and crouching. Most work will be performed in inside working conditions but should be able to tolerate changes in building environment such as with or without air conditioning or heating. May be required occasionally to move up to 50 pounds by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise repositioning objects. Fingering and repetitive motions will be required for data entry, while picking items up or while filing. Able to express or exchange ideas with others accurately and at an easily audible volume through the use of spoken words. Able to receive detailed information through oral communication or by phone at usual speaking levels and differentiate between sounds in the environment. Close visual acuity to perform detail-oriented activities as well as acuity to perform activities at or within arm’s reach with skill, control and accuracy such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing a computer screen or significant reading of documents and other materials.
