The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leadership, safety well-being, and training/development of the mechanical reports.  Additionally, the Maintenance Supervisor must maintain control and follow up of the maintenance workforce as well as coordinate with Production Supervisors, Maintenance Planners and other plant personnel as required to maximize equipment availability.  The Maintenance Supervisor is also expected to be capable of supervising all areas of plant as required to cover for other maintenance supervisors. 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Check the Overnight work report every day and go to the equipment to review the work request and determine the priority and initial steps forward: Is it emergency work to initiate or gather details to create a work order for planning. 
  • Rotating Emergency On Call Requirement. 1 week (24/7) every 6 weeks.
  • Kickoff each day and follow the planned work schedule.   Start the day with Safety.  Verify work area exams and SLAMs are completed.  Ensure maintenance workers are following all safety rules.
  •  Utilize short interval control methods to follow-up on the maintenance jobs.  Around 2-3:30 pm prepare the next day work plan by ensuring all work orders are printed and prepared for work assignment on the next business day.
  • Oversee the work and ensure Proper, safe, and efficient execution is completed and ensure the technician provides clear feedback. 
  • Have the next job assignment prepared.  Ensure the feedback is legible for Admin to enter feedback of duration, cost, and revised methods for work order close-out and future planning information.  Provide feedback in handwriting for work orders that will be entered and closed by Admin.
  • Minimize Time lost between jobs and breaks.  Question why overruns occur and critique jobs that do not go according to plan (interruption, missed coordination, etc.)
  • Execute the day according to the planned work and collaborate with the planner to develop the plan for the following week.
  • Participate and provide input in the weekly planning as well as weekly resource allocation meetings.
  • Review and final revisions of work plans that are created by the planner for job execution: Check labor, parts, work scope, access, and methods.  Adjust the plan if there is a better way to do the job.
  • Make sure the parts used are issued and unused parts are returned to the warehouse.  Ensure old parts, used oil, garbage, and maintenance debris is properly disposed of.
  • Clearly communicate with planners, engineers, operations.
  • Appropriately pair the technicians according to skill set and success of the job.  Ensure Good Quality/Prevent Re-work.
  • Keep a clear list of training needs and execute training plans with each technician to ensure development.
  • Control the Tardiness, Absenteeism, and vacations.
  • Hold maintenance workforce accountable for the highest level of integrity.  Ensure the maintenance workforce maintains a consistent and strong work ethic and performs repairs of quality workmanship.  Initiate corrective disciplinary action as necessary.
  • Set the expectations and strive for continuous improvement.  Find ways to perform the work more efficiently.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Related college degree preferred or equivalent years’ experience in the mining industry
  • Six (6) years’ experience in cement or related industry preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must keep safety above all else 
  • Must be able to exercise independent judgment
  • Knowledgeable of MSHA standards and requirements preferred
  • Possess excellent verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems
  • Ability to perform precision measurements cross check work for appropriate machine specifications.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Must be a team player
  • Task and project oriented
  • Ability to work with all levels of management
  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language
  • Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, policy manuals and required government regulations
  • Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility
  • Must have good communications skills using a two way radio 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Lift up to 30 pounds
  • Visual acuity, speech & hearing, hand & eye coordination
  • Walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, and squatting to perform the essential functions of this production labor position
  • Must use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders
  • Must have good hand/eye coordination and vision to safely operate equipment
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions
  • Pass required physical examination and drug screens
 
WORKING CONDITIONS 
Works in all weather conditions including heat, cold, ice, rain and in high humidity and is required to work in all plant environments. Incumbent will be exposed to vibrating equipment and mechanical and electrical hazards and heights. . May have exposure to dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc. (See MSDS’s)
