The Explosives Engineer is member of the Enterprise Explosives group, which is responsible for ensuring blasting activities are performed safely and cost effectively. Reporting to the Manager, Drilling & Blasting, this position will closely collaborate with Division Production Management to ensure activities are aligned with the goals and objectives of the West Division.
The duties of the role include supporting the drilling & blasting programs and improving the overall mine-to-mill total cost per ton for both surface and underground operations throughout the Western United States.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Blast layout and design coordination with vendors aligned with mine plans and plant needs to achieve targeted KPI’s
  • Mitigation of adverse impacts to neighbors and the community through coordination with vendors and site management
  • KPI administration to include drill and blast activities, oversize production, pit equipment cycle times, and crushing plant production rates to identify and lead improvement initiatives aimed at complete process optimization
  • Drilling and blasting regulation and company policies compliance 
  • Production Process assessments
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required – Mining or Explosives Engineering, preferred
  • Minimum 2+ years Explosives and Mining Operations Experience or Postgraduate Degree
  • Must be able to pass a required background check and obtain ATF clearance
  • Ability to travel to mine sites and work in both surface and underground mining environments
  • Must be willing to work in all weather conditions including heat, cold, dust, noise, etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
  • Strong personal commitment to safety
  • Analytic mindset and creative problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge and understanding of MSHA regulations
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Valid Drone Pilots License, preferred
  • Proficient with 3D blast design software(s) and integration with smart drills, preferred
  • Bore Tracking knowledge and experience, preferred
  • Knowledgeable of mine planning software(s) a plus
  • Explosives product manufacturing and specifications knowledge
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to travel 30-50% of the time with flexibility of hours and changing schedules

Salary Posting:

The base salary compensation, exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary), will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The posted range for this role represents the total reasonable pay range and does not solely represent a hiring range. Therefore, hiring at the top or maximum of the range should not be expected as it would not allow for salary growth opportunities in the role, would diminish promotion value, and may not align with internal equity.
