Position Summary  
The Safety Manager is directly responsible for the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of the safety and health function for all HMA (Asphalt) and Paving operations. This position will report to the Director of Safety.  
In addition, the position is responsible for assisting with the training of current employees with Martin Marietta's Guardian Angel Safety Culture as established. Conduct facility safety audits primarily for OSHA sites. Review & communicate injury & liability loss trends and causal analysis to their assigned operations groups.   
Essential Functions

  • Safety Compliance: Ensure that all work complies with safety regulations and standards set by relevant authorities. This includes OSHA regulations.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential safety hazards in asphalt and paving projects and develop strategies to mitigate risks. Conduct regular risk assessments to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Training and Education: Provide safety training to construction workers and other staff involved in asphalt and paving projects. Educate them on proper procedures, equipment usage, and emergency response.
  • Safety Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of the construction site to ensure that safety protocols are being followed. Address any safety concerns promptly and implement corrective actions.
  • Emergency Response Planning: Develop and implement emergency response plans for accidents or incidents on the construction site. Ensure that all workers are familiar with the procedures.
  • Safety Equipment and Gear (PPE): Ensure that workers have access to and properly use safety equipment and gear, such as helmets, gloves, safety glasses, and reflective vests.
  • Communication: Facilitate clear communication regarding safety expectations and procedures among all team members. Encourage an open dialogue about safety concerns.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities, including inspections, training sessions, and incident reports. This documentation may be required for regulatory compliance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry best practices and advancements in safety technology. Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety standards on construction sites.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate safety measures seamlessly into the overall project plan.

The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.   
Travel  
Travel will be frequent and primarily within the Rocky Mountain Region. Out-of-area and overnight travel will be expected, but minimal.  
Education and Experience  
  • A Bachelor’s degree preferred 
  • Five years of safety management experience, or nine years’ experience in the Safety field.
Preferred Education and Experience  
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or similar.
  • Five years’ experience in Asphalt & Paving operations or construction environment.
  • Asphalt and Paving Knowledge.

Salary Posting:

The base salary compensation, exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary), will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The posted range for this role represents the total reasonable pay range and does not solely represent a hiring range. Therefore, hiring at the top or maximum of the range should not be expected as it would not allow for salary growth opportunities in the role, would diminish promotion value, and may not align with internal equity.
