JOB SUMMARY

 

The Asphalt Dispatcher is the primary link between our production facilities, our delivery fleet, and our customers. This role is responsible for the strategic coordination of asphalt deliveries to various job sites, ensuring maximum fleet utilization and strictly adhering to on time delivery metrics. Under the direction of the Dispatch Manager, you will manage high-volume phone traffic, input complex orders into the central system, and provide real-time troubleshooting for drivers and field personnel. The goal is to deliver total customer satisfaction while maintaining the highest safety and ethical standards.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor the GPS 'board' to track trucks during loading, transit, and return phases.
  • Adjust delivery rates and move trucks between plants as needed to ensure the highest cubic yards/tons per driver hour.
  • Proactively assist drivers with navigation to job sites and provide emergency support if mechanical issues or accidents occur.
  • Compute driver load schedules for the following day and manage business booking up to 90 days in advance.
  • Enter customer orders into the central dispatch system with 100% accuracy.
  • Type and verify delivery tickets to ensure correct mix designs, quantities, and delivery instructions are transmitted to the plant and driver.
  • Learn to check verbal orders against system entries to verify data integrity and prevent billing errors.
  • Manage high volume phone calls daily, handling new orders, cancellations, and modifications with a professional and positive demeanor.
  • Answer customer inquiries regarding asphalt products, progress on current pours/paving jobs, and potential delays.
  • Act as a liaison between Customer Representatives and field crews to resolve disputes or address specific mix design needs.
  • Maintain constant contact with plant operators and maintenance crews to stay informed of plant outages or mechanical problems.
  • Monitor production levels and inform the shop or maintenance team of any equipment failures that could impact the delivery schedule.
  • Perform basic accounting tasks and generate daily productivity reports using Microsoft Office Suite.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

 

High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience

 

Work Experience

 

1–3 years of experience in the Construction, Asphalt andamp; Paving, or Logistics industry.

Physical Requirements

 

Ability to sit for extended shifts.

High visual acuity for reading detailed reports and multiple computer monitors simultaneously.

Capacity to manage a high volume of inbound calls and radio traffic without loss of accuracy.

High demand for reading detailed reports, tracking software, and entering data into central order systems.

Able to work overtime and weekends as needed.

 

Travel

 

On-site, office based.

 

Working Conditions

 

High-stress and fast-paced. Dispatchers must resolve 'conflicting demands' such as equipment breakdowns, driver delays, and urgent customer requests simultaneously.

The hiring rate for this position starts at $28.70+ exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary). The offered base compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The hiring range for this role represents the base compensation we expect to pay for the position at time of hire and does not represent the total possible base pay of the position.
