Intern, Corporate Engineering (Summer 2027)
Description
The Martin Marietta Summer Engineering Internship provides students with meaningful, hands-on experience supporting enterprise-wide engineering and capital improvement projects. This approximately 10-week program offers the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world industrial projects while developing technical, analytical, project management, and leadership skills.
Working alongside experienced engineers and project managers within Enterprise Engineering Services and reporting to the Director of Engineering, Engineering Interns gain exposure to a broad range of engineering and project management activities. These may include project design and engineering, budgeting, procurement, construction management, commissioning, operational excellence initiatives, plant optimization, and engineering support across Martin Marietta's operations. Through these experiences, interns gain a deeper understanding of how engineering supports safe, efficient, and reliable operations while contributing to projects that have a meaningful impact on the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow and promote Martin Marietta's safety, environmental, and ethical standards in all work activities.
- Actively participate in company safety initiatives and support a culture of safety excellence.
- Assist engineers and project managers with project planning, budgeting, procurement activities, and project documentation.
- Support the development and review of engineering drawings, specifications, reports, and technical documents.
- Gain experience using engineering and business software, including AutoCAD, JD Edwards (JDE), and AggFlow.
- Participate in data collection, analysis, and reporting to support operational and engineering initiatives.
- Assist with plant audits, operational excellence assessments, and process improvement projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, and Engineering to support business objectives.
- Demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and a strong work ethic while working independently and as part of a team.
- Perform all responsibilities in accordance with the Company's Mission, Vision, Values, policies, procedures, and Code of Ethical Business Conduct.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple tasks.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in both office and field environments.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, or sit for extended periods as required.
- Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and high-visibility clothing while in operational environments.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
