Position Summary

Responsible for the overall daily operations of the Metro Colorado Asphalt Production facilities.  This position requires a thorough understanding of the asphalt manufacturing process, plant repairs and maintenance.  They will foster a high-quality experience for our customers, while balancing a sustainable cost of operations.  This role has a strong emphasis on customer service, scheduling, labor and equipment utilization, and overall leadership of asphalt manufacturing operation.  This person will successfully work as a part of the leadership team which includes Safety, Operations, Sales, HR, and Shop Managers, as well as others as needed to sustain being the supplier of choice to our customers and driving for financial performance. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the asphalt plant teams driving a culture that fosters safety, employee engagement, ownership, and collaboration in accordance with company policies by hiring, training, motivating, planning, and directing work, managing performance, and resolving issues so that assigned performance targets are met or exceeded
  • Actively and effectively communicate with Sales, Project Management, Operations, HR, Shops, and Safety departments to stimulate an environment of collaboration and cooperation. Connect with other Area Production Managers regularly to maximize resource utilization and efficiencies
  • Serve as a role model in leadership, teamwork, customer focus, continuous improvement, safety, and environmental stewardship to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors; foster a culture that promotes ethical practices and core values and behaviors
  • Take an active role prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure all asphalt plant activities performed have zero incidents and are in total compliance with all policies and procedures
  • Maintain continuous communication with the plant foreman and operators as needed to keep them apprised of the status of safety, quality, production, schedules, loads, problems, and opportunities to maximize efficient operations and to enhance the overall operations of the plant
  • Ensure administrative duties are completed, including payroll, daily and monthly reporting, records of all preventive and corrective maintenance performed, purchase orders and inventory, environmental and safety compliance
  • Work closely with the paving operations and quality control teams to ensure adherence to internal and external quality control requirements for all asphalt products and raw materials, while balancing customer demand and production capabilities to provide excellent customer service and minimize waste
  • Manage the maintenance of plant and equipment to ensure maximum plant reliability and utilization, while reducing repair and labor costs
  • Identify training opportunities and, as necessary, document performance issues and constructively discuss corrective action with asphalt plant team members
  • Determine staffing needs and assist in screening and selecting employees, including developing field tests, interviewing candidates, and making hiring recommendations

Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree in a construction management, business, engineering, or related discipline or equivalent experience

Minimum Experience

Salary Posting:

The base salary compensation, exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary), will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. The posted range for this role represents the total reasonable pay range and does not solely represent a hiring range. Therefore, hiring at the top or maximum of the range should not be expected as it would not allow for salary growth opportunities in the role, would diminish promotion value, and may not align with internal equity.
