Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist is directly responsible for leading multi-district human resources functions that support Company and Southwest Division goals and expectations. Based in Houston, TX this position will lead all human resources activities within their assigned territory to build and drive best in class marketing, hiring, development, employee relations and retention initiatives. 

This role currently oversees HR support for the Houston, Garwood and Beaumont, Texas area. Product lines supported include: aggregate production/mining, recycled crushed concrete and aggregate rail terminals 

 

Responsibilities

  • Partners and consults with Management to develop work environments, effect culture change, and produce working conditions which maximize effective use of human potential and results in maximum productivity, profitability and job satisfaction 
  • Acts as a resource for employee questions regarding employee relations issues 
  • Leads and provides excellent employee relations consultation 
  • Provide leadership and guidance for assigned business partners to influence effective performance management and succession planning initiatives 
  • Provides guidance to assigned business partners for effective talent management activities that meet District and business unit goals. This includes partnering with Division Talent Acquisition representatives to influence local marketing and college recruiting initiatives 
  • Provides leadership and guidance on assigned ethics hotline calls and employment law compliance for the District and business units. This includes, but is not limited to Affirmative Action, EEOC, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, NLRA, MSHA and OSHA 
  • Coordinates new hire onboarding for salaried exempt and salaried non-exempt employees 
  • Conducts first day onboarding activities with new hires. Participates in large group orientation events monthly. 
  • Leads and participates in salary exempt and salary non-exempt selection processes for the assigned Districts and Business Units 
  • Participates in the facilitation and consultation of annual merit and general wage increase processes 
  • Guides the performance planning process for hourly non-exempt employees 
  • Completes and annual review of district and business unit compensation and headcount expectations 
  • Ensures compliance with required records and reports. Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings, such as seminars. Maintains organization charts for assigned territory 
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to participate in the development of District goals and expectations and to lead implementation of initiatives through their respective business partners 
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and project management skills 
  • Must be a self-starter and team-player 
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize conflicting demands 
  • Excellent relationship building, interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent bilingual communication skills (oral and written) in English and Spanish 
  • Able to effectively communicate with employees, management, vendors, customers, etc. at all levels and to groups of varying size 
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to lead and influence teams without direct authority 
  • Knowledge of employment law and compliance 
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Suite and ability to learn company internal programs and systems as needed 

 

Preferred Requirements – Education & Experience 

  • A bachelor’s degree in HR Management, Business Management or related. 
  • 5-8 years of relevant HR work experience. Mining or construction experience a plus 
  • Highly proficient in MS Office suite 
  • HR professional accreditation (e.g. PHR/SHRM-CP) in Human Resource management strongly preferred 
  • Workday experience a plus 

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; speak and hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must possess and maintain a safe driving record and be licensed and able to operate a passenger vehicle. Regularly drives to various locations throughout the Houston/Beaumont region with occasional travel to Dallas, San Antonio and other regional locations as needed. 

 

Travel

Travel will be frequent and primarily within the assigned Districts.  Out-of-area and overnight travel will be expected on a regular basis.
