Position Overview

Reporting to the Southern Aggregate Region’s VP/GM, the Senior QC Manager is responsible for ensuring that production and shipments of aggregate are in compliance with DOT, and other specifications, by supporting and training QC technicians and other plant personnel to test and follow best practices for our plants in the Central Texas, Houston and Gulf Coast areas. The Senior QC Manager is a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills that strives for Continuous Improvement (CI) through intra-group and inter-division cross functionality. They will oversees the strategic management aspects of the aggregate region’s quality control function, including quarry mining strategy, raw materials sourcing and alternative raw material sourcing, process uniformity standards and goals, laboratory testing and compliance auditing, and cross - plant metrics and standards. andnbsp;A key focus is striving for operational excellence using known CI tools to maximize the value proposition for the Southern Aggregates Region. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and direction in the areas of Quality strategies to ensure these elements are incorporated into the business
  • Works with Plant management teams and Sales to develop short and long-range business goals and performance objectives in addition to organizing and directing resources as necessary to achieve our Quality strategy.
  • Regularly reviews plant performance compared to achieving KPI’s, pursuing continuous improvement initiatives and strategies to achieve world class performance (Operational Excellence) in all aspects of aggregate manufacturing from a quality perspective.
  • Collaborates with Plant teams and Sales to improve performance through ongoing education, training and development of key personnel, quality hiring and succession and workforce planning 
  • Communicates regularly with direct reports and other managers, Sales team and employees within the Southern Aggregates Region to ensure information is communicated in a timely manner
  • Assures compliance with ASTM standards with the plants 
  • Maintains a close working relationship with customers including internal Ready-mix as needed, in coordination with Sales team. 

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree engineering or technical field, preferably related to construction materials. Other degrees considered based on experience..
  • 10+ years related industry experience in aggregate testing experience or construction inspection and related materials testing. 
  • 5+ years industry experience in a supervisory role.
  • Certification as ACI Aggregates Grade 1 Technician, TXAPA Agg 101, or SB 101 is preferred 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

 

andnbsp;Other Requirements

  • In depth knowledge of aggregate rock chemistry and manufacturing process.
  • Experience managing all Quality Control activities in a quarry/plant operations.
  • Supports Continuous Improvement initiatives of plant’s quality assurance departments.
  • Coordinates non-routine tests and field trials as required.
  • Provides technical support [when needed] to plant’s quality assurance departments in troubleshooting complex problems involving, materials, manufacturing process, sampling, testing and applications with a preventive approach.
  • Audits and ensures Standard Operating Procedures for all lab equipment and QA process.
  • Audits lab and field equipment and instruments
  • Provides technical support with Lab Equipment.
  • Maintains a data base of products available in all our markets, with specifications with current q uality comparisons.
  • Maintains close communication with Sales, Customer service and internal customer (Ready-mix) areas to identify needs and address issues with emphasis on prevention.
  • Experience in implementation of automated systems for sampling, sample preparation and analysis.

  • Support the Continuous Improvement process to achieve operational excellence.andnbsp;
  • Ability to inspire and develop staff

  • Ability to analyze and interpret quality data
  • Leads product development program including Randamp;D, pilot tests, process improvements, implementation, quality assurance methods and customer support.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Exercise independent decision making, prioritize conflicting demands.
  • Must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language, communicate positively with employees, customers and vendors at all levels.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time (up to 8 hrs.), stand, stoop and bend.
  • Pass required physical examination and drug screens.
  • Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and /or slippery ground).
  • Drive automobile to various plant sites and work locations. Must be able to travel (air/auto) overnight as needed.
  • Ability to use PC up to 8 hours per day.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Labs are typically air conditioned.andnbsp; On a regular basis, outdoor assignments may require periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet or dry and dusty.andnbsp;andnbsp;Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85-90 dBs.andnbsp;
