JOB SUMMARY
The Asphalt Plant Oiler is a critical member of the production team, responsible for ensuring the continuous, efficient, and safe operation of the asphalt plant through meticulous preventative maintenance and mechanical support. This cross-functional role involves a high degree of technical skill in lubrication and mechanical inspection, as well as the ability to operate heavy mobile equipment. The Oiler works to minimize plant downtime by identifying potential mechanical failures before they occur and maintaining a pristine, hazard-free work environment.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform daily greasing and lubrication of all plant components, including conveyors, shakers, drives, bearings, and rollers, according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and maintain oil levels in gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and engines. Collect oil samples for analysis to monitor component wear.
  • Conduct comprehensive "walk-around" inspections to detect leaks, loose fittings, unusual vibrations, or frayed components.
  • Maintain detailed logs of lubrication schedules, fluid consumption, and equipment hours to assist in long-term maintenance planning.
  • Safely operate front-end loaders, skid steers, and man-lifts to move materials, feed the plant, or assist in site maintenance.
  • Serve as a cross-trained operator to cover plant personnel during breaks or peak production periods, ensuring uninterrupted asphalt production.
  • Maintain high standards of plant cleanliness by shoveling spilled material, sweeping walkways, and ensuring the control house and yard are free of debris and hazards.
  • Track and report inventory levels of lubricants, spare parts, and production materials
  • Assist maintenance crews in performing minor mechanical and electrical repairs, including replacing belts, tightening fittings, and repairing gaskets.
  • Utilize arc welders and cutting torches for minor fabrication or repair of plant structures and equipment (where qualified).
  • Collaborate with the Plant Operator to troubleshoot operational inefficiencies or mechanical failures.
  • Actively participate in daily "THINK" or "TRACK" safety meetings and adhere to all OSHA and Martin Marietta safety protocols.
  • Ensure safe traffic flow within the plant yard and verify that all safety guards and emergency stops are functional and in place.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations regarding the storage and disposal of oils, greases, and other hazardous materials.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience
Work Experience
1–3 years of experience in lubrication services, asphalt or heavy construction industry preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Equipment analysis and general repair concepts 
Oil and lubricant maintenance concepts 
Troubleshooting 
OSHA compliance and regulations 
Problem solving skills

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift at least 75 lbs regularly.
Perform activities requiring considerable use of arms and legs, including climbing ladders/stairs, balancing, walking, stooping, and kneeling.
Extensive use of hand tools, sweeping, and shoveling materials to maintain plant cleanliness.
 
Travel
Plant specific, fixed location.
 
Working Conditions
All duties require outside assignments and require periods of work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.  
 
 
Union
We are excited to share the base hourly rate for this position is $34.01+. Membership with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local Union No, 9 is required upon hire. Condition and terms of employment and benefits are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
