Intern, Mine Planning (Summer 2027)
Description
The Martin Marietta Summer Mine Planning Internship provides students with meaningful, hands-on experience supporting mine planning, geological modeling, resource evaluation, and operational improvement initiatives. This approximately 10-week program offers the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world mining projects while developing technical, analytical, project management, and leadership skills.
Working alongside mining engineers, geologists, and operations leaders and reporting to members of the Mine Planning team, Mine Planning Interns gain exposure to both short-term and long-range mine planning activities across Martin Marietta's aggregate operations. Interns contribute to projects that support operational efficiency, resource optimization, geological analysis, and strategic mine development while gaining a deeper understanding of how mine planning supports safe, efficient, and sustainable operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow and promote Martin Marietta's safety, environmental, and ethical standards in all work activities.
- Actively participate in company safety initiatives and support a culture of safety excellence.
- Work with operations management, mine planners, and mining engineers to support short-range, mid-range, and life-of-mine planning activities.
- Assist in monitoring mining progress, evaluating production performance, and identifying opportunities for improvement and plan reconciliation.
- Support drilling, exploration, and resource evaluation programs, including field data collection, exploration hole location, geological logging, and quality sampling.
- Digitize, organize, and analyze geological, survey, and operational data to support resource modeling and mine planning efforts.
- Assist with the development of geological models, maps, reserves documentation, and planning reports.
- Utilize software applications such as AutoCAD, GIS platforms, and Microsoft Office tools to support planning and reporting activities.
- Conduct quantitative analysis of mining and operational data to identify trends, opportunities, and business insights.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Operations, Engineering, Environmental, Land, and Geology to support business objectives.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, resource utilization, and long-term mine development.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across the organization while demonstrating professionalism and initiative.
- Support additional strategic projects and business initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in mining engineering, civil engineering, geology, geological engineering, or a closely related field.andnbsp; andnbsp;
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS applications, and Microsoft Office products.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical report writing.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively within both field and office environments.
- Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic work environment.
- Strategic thinking skills with the ability to develop practical and easy-to-follow planning solutions.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly to operational sites as needed. Some overnight travel may be required.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
