Summary

Martin Marietta is seeking a qualified Area Production Manager for our aggregate operations in Southern California. The Area Production Manager will be responsible for providing leadership in safety and operations to the aggregate businesses in the Southern CA market.  

 

Responsibilities

  • In partnership with Environmental and Safety staff, continue to develop and maintain high levels of safety, environmental performance and community engagement. 
  • Oversee the site operations to ensure production efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of people, plants and equipment. 
  • Working closely with the District sales and quality control teams, ensure adherence to internal and external quality control requirements for all asphalt products and raw materials, while balancing customer demand and production capabilities to provide excellent customer service and minimize waste. 
  • Develop training, coaching and mentoring for all staff to ensure succession needs are anticipated and employees have opportunities to advance and learn throughout their career. 
  • Manage the maintenance of all plants and equipment in order to ensure maximum availability and utilization, while optimizing cost. 
  • Provide leadership and oversight of maintenance and capital projects, ensuring well structured project management and cost control while meeting delivery schedules. 
  • Manage the capital needs of the plants, develop capital budgets in conjunction with the VP and finance staff to anticipate significant changes. 
  • Continuously evaluate opportunities for process improvement, productivity enhancement and cost reduction within all areas of the operations. 

 

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading a strong site safety culture, focused on developing improved safe behavior and peer to peer learning 
  • An ambitious construction materials professional that is looking for a management challenge, enjoys coaching people, building teams and leading continuous improvement. The successful individual will be comfortable challenging and being challenged on a daily basis. 
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in progressively more responsible production/operations management roles required.  Previous planning and capital project management a bonus. 
  • Minimum of 7 years’ supervisory or management experience in an aggregate or similar industrial environment 
  • Bachelors’ degree in an engineering discipline such as mining, civil, mechanical or equivalent industry experience/associates degree preferred. 
  • Experience of capital and operating budget creation at the area level, along with sound knowledge of plant financial reporting.  Demonstrated experience in reducing/minimizing operating cost and improving productivity. 
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and execute capital projects while allocating resources appropriately to ensure normal business demands are met. 
  • Sound knowledge of OSHA regulations, employment laws and environmental regulations as they apply within mining and processing operations, previous California experience an asset. 
  • Experience managing within existing bargaining agreements and previous participation in union negotiations an advantage. 
  • Proficient use of standard MS office tools, AutoCAD or similar. 

Travel 
 
Travel will be frequent and primarily within the Division and assigned District. Out-of-area and overnight travel will be expected.

Salary Posting:

The base salary compensation, exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary), will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The posted range for this role represents the total reasonable pay range and does not solely represent a hiring range. Therefore, hiring at the top or maximum of the range should not be expected as it would not allow for salary growth opportunities in the role, would diminish promotion value, and may not align with internal equity. Salary Range Maximum: USD US$205000
