JOB SUMMARY

The Community Relations and Engagement Associate will support the Pacific Region’s California operations by developing and coordinating community engagement, charitable giving, sponsorships, and employee outreach programs. The position will serve as the primary liaison between local operations and surrounding communities, building relationships, coordinating community events, addressing concerns, and supporting permitting initiatives through proactive outreach. The role will also partner with Human Resources on employee engagement and labor-relations efforts and work with Corporate Communications to ensure consistent messaging and strengthen the Company’s visibility and reputation throughout California. The position also provides administrative support to the Environmental team as needed.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement community relations strategies aligned with organizational goals 
  • Serve as the first contact between the organization and community groups, nonprofits, local leaders, and residents
  • Plan, coordinate, and attend community events, outreach programs, sponsorships, and volunteer initiatives
  • Support coordination of partnerships and collaborations with community organizations and local agencies
  • Create and deliver presentations, reports, and communications related to environmental and community initiatives
  • Identify community concerns and work with operations and leadership to develop timely and appropriate responses.
  • Monitor social and traditional media community feedback, concerns, and trends, and advise leadership on issues impacting public perception
  • Maintain records of community contacts, events, commitments, donations, and engagement activities.
  • Track and evaluate the effectiveness of community programs and initiatives
  • Partner with Human Resources to promote focused employee and company stories across Social Media platforms to increase and enhance employee engagement.
  • Perform other community relations and administrative duties in support of the Pacific Region.

 

QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS

Education

  • B.S. in Communications, Public Relations, or another field of study

Work Experience

  • No experience required.
  • Preferred experience in establishing/maintaining community involvement/outreach initiatives that build strong relationships with the local community, and other stakeholders of influence. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in MS applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) 
  • Proficient in the use of social media to communicate local community partnerships or provide education of Martin Marietta’s contribution to the local community. 
  • Excellent communication skills and a self-starter with the ability to work and travel without direct supervision. 
  • Excellent administrative skills in addressing the needs of the executive management team and support/assist in the routine duties within an office environment. 
  • The ability to manage and oversee multiple projects at one time. 
  • Possess a customer and team-focused approach with the ability to learn and adapt to changes quickly. 
  • Possess excellent written, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Willingness to travel within the California approximately 20-30% of the time with some overnight stays. 

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit for extended shifts.

High visual acuity for reading detailed reports and multiple computer monitors simultaneously.

High demand for reading detailed reports, tracking software, and entering data into central order systems.

Able to work overtime and weekends as needed.

The hiring range for this position is $65,000 -$90,000 exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary). The offered base compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The hiring range for this role represents the base compensation we expect to pay for the position at time of hire and does not represent the total possible base pay of the position.
