Responsible for the overall direction of production of aggregate for the following locations: Pomona, Salem Stone, Jamestown, Asheboro, Central Rock, Burlington, East Alamance, and Reidsville Quarries. Reporting to the Vice-President/General Manager of the Greensboro District, the Area Production Manager will lead and grow all aspects of aggregate production of the Greensboro District.

This includes managing all aspects of safety, production, and other support functions, with primary responsibility for ensuring the effective execution of the production performance and growth strategy. Competency requirements include business acumen, customer focus, developing direct reports, drive for results, and strategic team building. The preferred candidate can lead and motivate within a safe team environment.
 
Essential Functions 
  • Cultivates a positive safety culture in assigned operations by championing Guardian Angel and Wing Man principles and philosophy. Builds individual accountability and recognition into safety approach.
  • Ensures daily coordination between production, delivery, distribution, and quality control.
  • Directs production activities to ensure strict adherence to cost and quality standards and takes immediate corrective action when deficiencies are noted; achieves production targets as directed by VP/GM.
  • Provides leadership resulting in maximum production, working closely with Sales Manager to exceed customer expectations, ensure product quality and drive maximum profitability.
  • Provides direction to Plant Managers to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
  • Builds effective teams and develop direct reports for future opportunities
  • Ensures that all personnel under their supervision comply with Federal, State and local regulations.
  • Ensures company safety rules and regulations are met through periodic inspections of plant machinery, equipment, personal activities and working conditions.
  • Drives operational and safety performance through continuous improvement initiatives that meet or exceed company and regional goals.
  • Develops and nurtures empowerment in all phases of the operation.
  • Responsible for overseeing month-end inventories.
  • Directs the selection, training, and development of production personnel - appraises performance of subordinates and takes/recommends appropriate personnel actions as necessary.
  • Recommends management development and necessary training programs for all direct reports
  • Purchases or directs the purchase of supplies and equipment in accordance with company policy- recommends or changes vendors to reduce maintenance costs.
  • Implements and reviews ongoing contracts, purchase orders, appropriations, and expenditures requests.
  • Coordinates with VP/GM needed staffing to operate the plants properly and safely. Coordinates these same needs with the Human Resources Department with attention on labor law compliance.
  • Assists with profit plans, CER’s, market analyses and special reports for the approval of the VP/GM.
  • Maintains operational security.
  • Develops an environment of empowerment and teamwork.
  • Other duties as required.
Education and Experience 
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.E.) in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or other related discipline strongly preferred and/or equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Ten (10) or more years’ experience in aggregates, operations preferred
  • Five (5) years’ supervisory or management experience in an aggregate or similar industrial environment
