Position Summary:
- Back up the Sales Coordinator when necessary to accommodate increased market demand/volume/projects or when the Sales Coordinator is on PTO
- Work with the District Sales Manager and Sales Reps to update weekly, monthly, and quarterly requirements for key business processes (backlog, customer trends, ticket modifications, invoice corrections, forecast/plan inputs, etc)
- Work with Sales management to provide insights into the sales funnel and market opportunities
- Communicate with customers, managing inbound requests and making outbound calls as needed for potential customers and following up on leads
- Be a resource for customers, sales and dispatch personnel, and operations to address product quality, availability, and end-use questions
- Monitor and provide insights into market trends and key upcoming projects
- Help manage key opportunities by assisting the sales team in collecting project and product information, assisting in preparing the quote, and managing necessary paperwork
- Route all RFQ/RFP for projects to appropriate Outside Sales Representative (OSR)
- As sourced from website, emails, or phone call, qualify opportunity and determine appropriate Martin Marietta representation, whether handle or route to OSR or Area Sales Manager (ASM).
- Develop understanding of the different markets including end use, logistics and key players and generate rapport with customers
- Drive superior customer satisfaction through assisting with product needs, selection, potential alternatives, credit application requests/customer qualification, purchase order requirements and dispatch process
- Review and approve daily tickets as necessary to ensure proper billing and/or payment of freight
- Update daily/weekly/monthly rail schedules as necessary
- Assist with the development/generation of weekly/monthly/quarterly sales reports as needed to improve insight for sales
- Handling calls, emails, and messages for OSR if the sales rep is not available
- Serve as a liaison between sales, dispatch, and operations to ensure sales order, dispatch, and ticketing accuracy and efficiency
- Support the Arkansas District Aggregate sales team which covers areas of AR, TX, LA, OK, TN and MS as needed to ensure timely completion of both internal and external requests
Preferred Requirements:
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in business, construction management or related discipline preferred.
- 1-2 years of sales/customer service experience
- Strong team player that can work independently/with remote sales reps as needed
- Strong phone presence and experience dialing dozens of calls per day
- Solid knowledge of construction materials and their application/use and specifications preferred
- Excellent verbal & written communication, interpersonal, listening, and negotiation skills; independent and self-disciplined, with ability to work proactively and productively both as a sole contributor and in a small team environment
- Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software a plus
- Experience working with Department of Transportation DOT and the Federal Railroad Administration a plus.
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new applications
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
- Industry Knowledge – basic knowledge of how customers use our products (i.e. utilities, building and pavement bases, concrete plants, asphalt plants, etc.) and basic knowledge of aggregate plant processing, quality control, products, and dispatch functions
- Interpersonal Communication Skills –excellent verbal/written to establish and maintain good working relationships with customers.
- Technology Capabilities - proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and internal systems (i.e. JDE, etc.)
- Reliability - Self-starter with excellent planning and administrative skills, attention to detail, and excellent time management skills
- Ethics and integrity – comply with best practices; and strict compliance with the Company’s Ethics policy and Code of Conduct
- Financial – Knowledge regarding pricing strategies, sales forecasting and ability to achieve objectives/key performance indicators (DSO, profit, ASP, tonnage, repeat business, new customers, etc.)
- Forecasting – assists Area/District Sales Manager in preparing timely and accurate reports, data and forecasts; work with operations staff regarding inventory, production, etc.,
- Customer Service – Ability to build strong customer relationships
- Safety – compliance with the Company’s Safe Driver Policy; adhere to safety regulations (state, federal, and company) while at Martin Marietta plants, on customer jobsites, and at all times.
