Excavator Operator
Description
- Operate excavators to dig, load, and move gravel, sand, and overburden materials.
- Excavate and maintain drainage ditches to manage surface and groundwater effectively.
- Perform dewatering tasks, including setting up and maintaining pumps, hoses, and sumps to control water levels in work areas.
- Inspect equipment daily and report any defects or maintenance needs.
- Maintain proper pit slopes, grades, and drainage for safety and efficiency.
- Follow site plans, production targets, and instructions from supervisors.
- Conduct pre-start checks and ensure all operations comply with company safety policies and environmental regulations.
- Assist with general maintenance, including road building, berm shaping, and stockpile management.
- Operating other equipment such as loaders, dozers and mining equipment is a plus.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience operating excavators in a gravel pit, construction, or mining environment.
- Knowledge of ditching techniques and dewatering systems.
- Ability to read and understand site drawings, grades, and elevations.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and environmental best practices.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic maintenance on equipment.
