Position Summary
The roller operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of asphalt rollers to distribute, break down, compress and give a finished surface to cooling asphalt.

Responsibilities
  

  

  • Ensures a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task
  • Operates roller in successive overlapping passes over surfaces and rolling subgrade and asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness
  • Determines speed and direction of machine, based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures
  • Pushes hand roller and pound surfaces using hand tamp, or guide portable power roller over areas not accessible to road roller
  • Operates self-propelled steel-wheeled, rubber-tired, vibrator, segmented, or other type of roller to compact earth, subgrade, sub-base and asphalt surfaces
  • Operates other heavy equipment and other construction related duties as required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  

  

  • Must be safety-oriented and exhibit safe work habits
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn new skills
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
  • Willing to work hours that are associated to the asphalt industry, including overtime, nights and weekends as needed
  • Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen

Minimum Education and Experience  

  

  • 3-5 years asphalt industry experience preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

Physical Requirements & Conditions  

  

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noise
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials

Compensation & Benefits:   

We are excited to share the base hourly range for this position is $24 - $36. The offered compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The posted range for this role represents the total reasonable pay range and does not solely represent a hiring range. Therefore, hiring at the top or maximum of the range should not be expected as it would not allow for salary growth opportunities in the role, would diminish promotion value, and may not align with internal equity.
