The Opportunity
We are looking for an accomplished AML professional to join our Compliance Services team in Grand Cayman.
The Cayman Islands is home to our global headquarters and where the Maples Group first established operations in the 1960s. As part of our Cayman team you will:
- Serve as AMLCO, MLRO, and DMLRO for a diverse portfolio of Maples Group clients across various structures.
- Provide comprehensive AML/CTF/CPF compliance oversight of client activities, including supervision of administrators and delegated parties performing investor-level KYC.
- Ensure the design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of robust AML/CTF/CPF frameworks in compliance with Cayman Islands regulations and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular independent audits, reviews, and testing of AML/CTF/CPF programs to assess effectiveness and identify areas for enhancement.
- Deliver practical, risk-based advice, guidance, and technical expertise on Cayman Islands AML/CTF/CPF requirements and related regulatory matters.
- Investigate suspicious activity reports, perform appropriate analysis, and submit filings to the Cayman Islands Financial Reporting Authority (FRA) as required.
- Act as the primary liaison with the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) during AML/CTF/CPF inspections and regulatory engagements.
- Perform detailed ML/TF/PF and sanctions risk assessments of client operations and control environments.
- Prepare and present comprehensive reports to Boards of Directors (or equivalent), outlining the status, effectiveness, and key risks of AML/CTF/CPF programs.
- Provide strategic advice and ongoing updates to client Boards on regulatory developments and AML/CTF/CPF considerations relevant to their operations.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of AML compliance professionals, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through regular engagement and attendance at client meetings.
The Maples Group AML Compliance Services team specializes in the provision of outsourced AML services, primarily to the Cayman Islands investment funds industry. These services include the provision of highly qualified individuals to act in the roles of Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Officer ("AMLCO"), Money Laundering Reporting Officer (“MLRO”) and Deputy Money Laundering Reporting Officer ("DMLRO") Officer.
What You Bring
In addition to demonstrable integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy, the successful candidate must possess the following:
- A bachelor’s degree in law, finance, or a related discipline and a minimum of 5 years’ experience providing AML officer services, or at least 10–15 years of progressive experience within the compliance field, preferably within the investment funds industry.
- A minimum of 5 years’ proven experience acting as AMLCO and MLRO, either at a CIMA-regulated entity or for investment fund vehicles.
- Established client-facing experience, including acting as AMLCO for portfolios of external client entities, with strong client relationship management capabilities considered essential.
- Demonstrated experience presenting AML/CTF/CPF reports to Boards of Directors or equivalent governing bodies.
- A recognised AML qualification (or equivalent) such as ACAMS, ICA, or similar.
- In-depth, practical knowledge of Cayman Islands AML/CTF/CPF legislation, regulatory frameworks, and industry guidance.
- Proven experience managing and developing teams of AML compliance professionals.
- Hands-on experience conducting client relationship meetings and maintaining senior stakeholder engagement.
- Strong, demonstrable knowledge of the Cayman Islands investment funds industry, including regulatory expectations and market practices.
- Solid understanding of investment activities and operational structures within fund vehicles.
- Working knowledge of fund administration processes and oversight requirements.
