The Opportunity / Who We Seek
We are looking for an accomplished Senior Vice President to join our Group Risk team as part of our financial services business headquartered in the Cayman Islands.
The Senior Vice President will work closely with senior/executive management to determine acceptable levels of risk and develop risk management strategies across Maples Group globally, covering both our financial services and legal business lines.
The Cayman Islands is home to our global headquarters and where the Maples Group first established operations in the 1960s. Since then, we have grown to become one of the largest employers in Cayman, where colleagues from all over the world collaborate to deliver best-in-class solutions to clients worldwide.
Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Working with the Chief Risk Officer and other senior team members to enhance and execute the enterprise risk management framework, with a primary focus on operational risk
- Working with senior/executive management to determine acceptable levels of risk for the Group; measuring risk appetite, and building consensus with executive management for the amount of risk that the Group is able, and willing, to take on
- Enhancing the risk management vision and strategy to ensure it is aligned to organisational priorities and enabling and facilitating the Group's business objectives
- Ensuring the highest levels of risk management governance and oversight from policies to risk reporting, risk committees and oversight
- Ensuring that the Group risk management framework is compliant with legal, regulatory and contractual obligations
- Driving the Group's risk management strategies and operations, as well as supervising the Group's risk mitigation and identification procedures
- Engaging actively with colleagues across all lines of defence in identifying and managing risk and validating the efficacy of controls
- Driving standardised (e.g. annual) and trigger event driven risk deep dives
- Managing and coaching a small team of risk professionals based in Cayman and London
What You Bring
In addition to indisputably high ethical standards and autonomy, the ideal candidate possesses the following:
- Extensive experience in risk management within a financial services or legal environment. Compliance and internal audit experience would be an added benefit
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to flex and adapt to a range of business needs and expectations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to develop and implement strategic plans and policies
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments and developing and executing risk management frameworks
