The Opportunity
We are looking for an accomplished Client Accountant to join our Accounting department as part of our financial services business in Amsterdam.
 
As part of the global expansion of the Maples Group’s financial services offering, our Amsterdam office opened its doors in 2015. We have achieved good growth since with the Maples infrastructure and network supporting us to deliver the best-in-class solutions to clients worldwide alongside our colleagues in legal services.
 
The Client Accountant supports the Fiduciary department. Providing assistance and independently undertaking a number of routine accounting mandates and the administration of a portfolio of clients as directed by the Vice Presidents and the Senior Vice President.
 
Key responsibilities:
  • maintaining contact with asset/investment managers, trustees, collateral administrators, banks and other involved stakeholders to obtain the required information for reporting purposes, meeting deadlines and meeting the client's needs;
  • liaising with external parties such as tax advisors, auditors and authorities;
  • assisting with managing portfolio in respect of planning, meeting deadlines and quality of work;
  • keeping abreast with changes in local (relevant) legislation and accounting guidelines;
  • handling all accounting services for Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) involved in structured finance or capital markets transactions such as repackaging transactions, RMBS, ABS and aviation transactions;
  • analysing proposed structures from a new business acceptance perspective, obtaining approvals, where required;
  • preparing management accounts and compiling financial statements (according to Dutch GAAP and/or IFRS standard or any other accounting principles) on time and in accordance with the agreed terms of the engagement;
  • preparing audit tails and support the audit process;
  • developing effective working relations with clients and responding promptly and professionally to client requests;
  • preparing or reviewing tax computations and submitting tax returns for the relevant tax heads incl., CIT (Corporate Income Tax), VAT. This would also involve liaising with relevant tax advisors for and on behalf of a client company;
  • preparing or reviewing clients forecasts and budgets;
  • preparing or reviewing FATCA and CRS reporting.
  • reviewing clients payments;
  • consistently monitoring and minimising receivables. 
 
Requirements:
In addition to indisputably high ethical standards and autonomy, the ideal candidate possesses the following:
  • Previous accounting experience (2 - 4 years) ideally gained in a Trust/Fiduciary company or financial services company in the Netherlands;
  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics or equivalent;
  • Want to succeed, grow, be challenged and challenge others;
  • Strong communication skills and work well in a team;
  • Dutch GAAP and/or IFRS knowledge;
  • Fluent English is required;
  • Dutch would be an advantage.
