The Opportunity
We are looking for an accomplished Assistant Compliance Officer to join our Compliance Team as part of our financial services business in Luxembourg.  
 
As part of the global expansion of the Maples Group’s financial services offering, our Luxembourg office opened its doors in 2007. As part of our Luxembourg team your primary responsibilities, as part of the MaplesFS Lux Compliance team will include:
  • Supporting the Compliance Officer and Responsable du contrôle du respect des obligations ("CO/RC") in their duties, acting as their deputy in their absence;
  • managing the monitoring of new laws, circulars and regulations at both a local and EU level providing advice and training to the business, support functions and management as necessary;
  • testing and reviewing client on-boarding and client due diligence processes, including reviewing risk assessments for high-risk customers, and acting as an advisory function to the business for new products and services;
  • attending the Local Business Acceptance Committee as the CO/RC's delegate to identify matters pertaining to high risk factors or potential regulatory or reputational concern;
  • supporting the business with respect to Financial Crime and Prudential matters as it relates to their business activities or potential new business;
  • reviewing and undertaking investigations into internal Suspicious Activity Reports ("SAR"s) and filing external SARs as may be required;
  • performing monitoring and testing in accordance with the Risk Assurance/Compliance Monitoring and Testing Programme to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, identifying matters for discussion and escalation with the business;
  • drafting and reviewing internal policies, procedures and other core materials;
  • assist with the preparation and provision of face-to-face training;
  • support the CO/RC and management with regulatory inspections as required including attendance at meetings, minute taking and maintaining a tracker of documents requested;
  • supporting the Compliance team with on-going monitoring, including transaction monitoring;
  • assisting the Compliance Officer with regulatory reporting;
  • support or handle internal investigations relation to internal suspicious activity reports, including where notification to the FIU is required; and
  • support the CO/RC with maintenance of registers and trackers including but not limited to declined business, PEPs, outsourcing.
 
 
 
Requirements 
 
In addition to indisputably high ethical standards and autonomy, the ideal candidate possesses the following: 
  • 5 or more years' experience in the Luxembourg compliance market, preferably with a Fiduciary services provider;
  • broader experience across the Compliance and Financial Crime field; a recognised Compliance qualification; or a degree in a relevant field is welcome;
  • demonstrable knowledge & understanding of the regulatory framework in place in Luxembourg relating to a PFS;
  • excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; 
  • fluent English is required (it is the main language of the office) (additional languages are viewed as beneficial);
  • attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks at once;
  • clear communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to deal with all levels of staff; and
  • effective problem-solving skills.
