About the Role

The successful candidate will provide legal advice on a broad range of established and evolving offshore matters and have exposure to some of the best legal work in the market. You will advise on all aspects of Cayman Islands regulatory matters impacting asset managers, investment funds (both open and closed-ended), banks, administrators, family offices and high net worth individuals.

 

The key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Advising clients on a wide range of financial services regulatory and compliance matters such as AML/CFT, beneficial ownership, Data Protection, FACTA/CRS and other international initiatives such as the OECD BEPS regime
  • Liaising with regulatory, administrative and enforcement authorities including as part of any client onsite prudential inspections
  • In conjunction with senior leadership, developing and implementing the regulatory practice growth strategy
  • Developing and maintaining strategic relationships with key clients, regulators and internal and external stakeholders
  • Training, supervising and mentoring associates within the team and the broader Maples Group
  • Actively contribute to thought leadership initiatives, client events, seminars and podcasts
  • In conjunction with the knowledge management team, researching, analysing and developing policy and legislation
  • Working with a client base that comprises blue chip domestic and international clients, particularly in the investment, banking and fiduciary sectors as well as all major onshore law firms
  • Advising in relation to the regulation of digital assets

EXPERIENCE

 

What You Bring

Applicants will have a strong academic background, admitted to practice in a recognised Commonwealth jurisdiction and at least 10 years' relevant post qualification experience advising on Cayman islands regulatory law. You will have a proven track record as a partner or senior counsel in a top-tier law firm or in-house regulatory counsel role and be able to demonstrate in-depth expertise on a wide range of regulatory matters including FATCA, CRS, SIBA, Beneficial Ownership, Econmic Substance and AML/CT. The ideal candidate will also have experience advising on regulatory and compliance matters relating to BVI law.

 

This post requires significant attention to detail, professionalism, ability to multi-task, and excellent organisational, prioritisation and communications skills. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to adhere to internal policies and procedures.
