About the Role
Innovation at the Maples Group is focused on delivering meaningful, measurable improvements to how legal services are designed, delivered, and experienced by our people and our clients.
The Innovation Manager will play a central role in translating innovation priorities into delivered, adopted solutions. Reporting to the Head of Innovation, this role takes primary accountability for the execution of innovation initiatives across legal technology, process improvement, and emerging capabilities (including AI).
The Innovation Manager will act as the delivery lead across the innovation portfolio, working closely with lawyers, business services, IT, and clients to ensure innovation activity delivers tangible business outcomes.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who combines delivery discipline, sound judgment, and the confidence to challenge how things are done.
Key Responsibilities
Innovation Delivery & Execution
- Own the end-to-end delivery of innovation initiatives aligned to the firm's innovation strategy and roadmap, from problem definition through to implementation, adoption, and measurement
- Translate agreed innovation priorities into executable delivery plans with clear outcomes, milestones, and success measures
- Lead pilots, proofs of concept, and scaled rollouts, including making evidenced-based recommendations to pivot or stop initiatives that do not demonstrate sufficient value
Stakeholder Leadership
- Work closely with lawyers and business services teams to identify opportunities, define problems worth solving, and co-design practical, scalable solutions
- Build strong working relationships with senior stakeholders, acting as a trusted delivery lead who balances ambition with pragmatism
- Confidently challenge proposed solutions, requirements, or ways of working where they do not deliver meaningful impact or align with agreed priorities
Legal Technology & AI
- Lead the implementation and adoption of legal technology solutions, working closely with IT, Information Services, Risk, Compliance, and other stakeholders
- Play a key role in the practical deployment of AI-enabled tools, including supporting use case development, safe implementation, and sustained adoption
- Ensure technology solutions are embedded into day-to-day ways of working, supported by appropriate training, documentation, and communication
People Leadership
- Support the development of the Innovation team, setting clear priorities, managing workload, and enabling professional development
- Foster a delivery-focused, collaborative culture, remaining close enough to the detail to unblock progress when required
Governance, Reporting, & Impact
- Contribute to innovation governance processes including intake, prioritisation, delivery reporting, and benefits tracking
- Track and communicate the impact of innovation initiatives, focusing on outcomes such as efficiency, quality, risk reduction, and client value
- Provide clear, concise updates on delivery progress, risks, and outcomes to support informed decision-making
Client Facing Innovation
- Support client-facing innovation activity, including pitches, pilots, and matter delivery where appropriate
- Ensure client innovation initiatives are delivered to a high standard and aligned with agreed objectives
EXPERIENCE
What You Bring
- Experience delivering innovation or legal technology initiatives in a law firm or professional services environment
- A strong track record of managing complex initiatives across multiple stakeholder groups
- Practical experience implementing legal technology and driving sustained adoption
